Brave Hangs for 10-12 Seconds After Using Post Function on Social Media Sites

Description of the issue: Browser “Not Responding” after every post operation

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3. Make a post on Facebook, X, or other social media and attempt to scroll or click on something else within 10 seconds.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!)

Expected result: To be able to continue using Brave like I did before December update.

Reproduces how often: 100% of the time after I post.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): Windows 10 24H2, Nearly up to date! Relaunch Brave to finish updating.

Brave 1.86.148 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Chromium: 144.0.7559.133

Additional Information: Happens on nearly all form fill in operations. Began happening in December 2025.

Try

Clearing cache, cookies, and history:
  • Clear cache, cookies, history - for Time range > All time, using Basic tab at brave://settings/clearBrowserData
  • Exit / Quit everything
  • Restart the computer
Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP, but . . .
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

Shields Basics

How do I configure global and site-specific Shields settings?

How do I use Shields while browsing?

Maybe: Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows in the Control Panel

1. Select Start, type `Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows` and open it.

2. On the Visual Effects tab, select `Adjust for best performance`.

3. Also allow `Animate controls and elements inside windows`.

Note: Command Prompt: %windir%\system32\SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe

I’m already on max performance mode because I do content creation.

I cleared cache and cookies. All that did was cause me to have to prove my identity to get back on several social media sites. It did not fix the browser hanging. It still hangs after I post on Facebook. Bear in mind this is a NEW behavior that started in December after Brave updated.

@Basspig

Create a new user Profile for Testing:

Create and use AN ADDITIONAL Brave Browser user Profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) - only ← meaning: Do not have any other Brave Browser user Profile tabs/windows open.

When creating this new Brave Browser user Profile for test purposes

  • Do not import anything.
  • Do not add any extensions.
  • Do not allow/enable any Brave Browser “bells and whistles” such as Brave Rewards, Brave Talk, etc.

IF this test Brave Browser user Profile does not present your problem, then possibly, the profile that you have been using, has a problem . . . and that might be caused by one or more extensions, or too many tabs ← complex/conundrum.

Detailed info about testing - IF, in regard to memory and performance issues:

Create a new profile to help Troubleshoot

Extensions Tests:
  • test by disabling all extensions
  • test by enabling each extension individually
  • test by uninstalling all extensions
  • test by installing each extension individually
  • test combinations of extensions
  • test order of installation of extensions

What’s odd is I haven’t added any extensions and I actually have fewer tabs open now than I did last year.

@Basspig please try creating an additional profile and/or posting using a Guest profile as @289wk suggests above. Make sure you close your original profile window when performing those tests.
