@WeskerEnd to clarify, if you go to Settings --> Downloads and set the location manually to the new desired path, does this not work when downloading files?

In any case, I was just trying to help because I had this problem and figured it out.
Problem: the box asking where to save the files was always showing the Documents folder by default, even after having downloaded something and chosen another folder.
Why this was happening: previously Brave was set to always download into a folder in drive F, but drive F was removed after an upgrade. So Brave, after not being able to find/create the folder in drive F that doesn’t exist, asked me everytime where to save.
Solution: actually turn on the option to always ask where to save, it was off, and the reason it was asking was the wrong path after the drive removal.
Everything’s working perfectly for me now, I didn’t remember at first that it was set to a specific folder in the removed driver, so it asking every time where to save was expected, but not remembering the last chosen folder I thought was a bug, when it’s not.
Just in case any of the people have the same “issue”.

I didn’t change ANYTHING on my PC, I have NEVER changed the default download location, the option “Ask where to save each file before downloading” have always being ON, and more than a month later and like two Brave updates later this problem PERSIST.
@ImmortalWarAngel I have reached out the team to see if I can get more people to test this. I cannot reproduce this under any conditions. As I suggested previously, I would be interested to know if you can reproduce this in the Beta Build of the browser.
Just download the Beta (it will not overwrite your current install or any data), install, open Beta, set a download location and download a file. Then close the browser and wait however long you think it takes for this issue to occur, then relaunch Beta and test again and see if the download location is remembered.
I have the same issue.
Ask where to save is on, but every download just defaults to the default location even if another download just a few minutes ago of the same file type went to a different folder.
I am on the Beta, v 1.83.91, on Linux if it matters (EndeavorOS).
So it seems this issue is cross-platform.
IMO how it should work is that it should NOT use the default location if another file of the same type was previously downloaded to another location (and that location still exists).
Only for new file types or a location that no longer exists, it should use the default.
It’s a minor thing, but pretty annoying.
EDIT: I just encountered an instance where the previous location actually got saved. That was with a second download VERY soon after the previous one.
It seems to me there is a timer at play here.
Please remove that timer, or at the very least make it configurable (to the point of fully disabling it).

As of today this problem seems to be solved in one of the last updates, i have no idea what caused it or how it is fixed now.
