Brave disconnects me from youtube and only youtube when closing the web browser

Google products rely on continuous user identification across domains (for sign‑in persistence and tracking).

Google’s unified login page relies on:

  • Multiple domains/hostnames (egs.: accounts.google.com, apis.google.com, ssl.gstatic.com)
  • Both first‑party and third‑party cookies
  • Persistent cross‑site authentication tokens
  • Device or browser fingerprint identifiers

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to the On exit tab at:

  • brave://settings/clearBrowserData

DISABLE:

  • Cookies and other site data

Click Save

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

  • brave://settings/clearBrowserData Advanced tab

Time range: All time

ENABLE:

  • Browsing history
  • Download history
  • Cookies and other site data
  • Cached images and files

Click Clear data

4 Steps . . .

  1. Visit https://www.youtube.com
  2. Click the “tune” icon to the left of the https in the URL address field
  3. Click Site settings → Delete data
  4. Refresh the webpage

Tune icon: Tune_button_left_offset_of_URL_address_field

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/content/javascript

Scroll down that javascript settings page to Allowed to use javascript

Click the Add button

Enter [*.]google.com as the site . . . but do not Enable the following:

  • Current Private session only

Click the Add button

Repeat for the following ‘Google ecosystem’ domains:

  • [*.]appspot.com
  • [*.]firebase.io
  • [*.]firebaseapp.com
  • [*.]firebasedatabase.app
  • [*.]gmail.com
  • [*.]googleapis.com
  • [*.]googlevideo.com
  • [*.]googleusercontent.com
  • [*.]gstatic.com
  • [*.]youtube.com
  • [*.]ytimg.com

Make sure those domains are not blocked ← firewall, hosts file, quarantine, software?

Brave Browser > Settings > Shields (brave://settings/shields) - Disable:

  • Forget me when I close this site

Brave Browser > Settings > Privacy and Security > Delete browsing data (brave://settings/clearBrowserData) - For all three tabs (Basic, Advanced, On exit), you may want to make sure the following is Disabled :

  • Cookies and other site data

Make sure that Auto-Shred is Disabled - it is part of Shields, and is Site-Specific.

Exit / Quit BB. Restart computer. Test.

Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP, but . . .
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

Shields Basics

How do I configure global and site-specific Shields settings?

How do I use Shields while browsing?

Create a new user Profile for Testing:

Create and use AN ADDITIONAL Brave Browser user Profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) - only ← meaning: Do not have any other Brave Browser user Profile tabs/windows open.

When creating this new Brave Browser user Profile for test purposes

  • Do not import anything.
  • Do not add any extensions.
  • Do not allow/enable any Brave Browser “bells and whistles” such as Brave Rewards, Brave Talk, etc.

IF this test Brave Browser user Profile does not present your problem, then possibly, the profile that you have been using, has a problem . . . and that might be caused by one or more extensions, or too many tabs ← complex/conundrum.

Detailed info about testing - IF, in regard to memory and performance issues:

Create a new profile to help Troubleshoot

Extensions Tests:
  • test by disabling all extensions
  • test by enabling each extension individually
  • test by uninstalling all extensions
  • test by installing each extension individually
  • test combinations of extensions
  • test order of installation of extensions

Test > In a Brave Browser New Window, go to: brave://settings/content/braveShields and, in the Shields Down section, Add: accounts.google.com

Some Brave Browser users might have the following setting that you probably should Disable:

Automatically remove permissions from unused sites

  • “To protect your data, let Brave remove permissions from sites you haven’t visited recently. Doesn’t stop notifications.”

That switch is/was at Brave Browser > Settings > Privacy and Security > Site and Shields Settings ← scroll to the bottom.

Google reCAPTCHA - If anything hides or blocks that appearance, or “it is just not showing,” that does not exclude Google’s expectation that your access and visit must pass the test. If Google gets any whiff of, “You might be a bot, or ‘man in the middle’” - that will lead to a disconnect and/or possible failure to “sign back in”.

Google login / sign-in window - That window is possible to appear to be complete, but its function may not be complete - usually because some content from a Google server has been frustrated or possibly a cookie or token does not satisfy Google (or Brave Privacy, or Brave content filtering, is somehow still “doing its thing”) - and so, trying to enter an e-mail address may not stick . . . leading to your being frustrated, while trying repeatedly, to sign in.

How the web works

Provides a high-level description of what happens when you use a web browser to navigate to a web page, explaining the magic that goes on behind the scenes to deliver the relevant code to your computer for the browser to assemble into something you can look at.

How browsers load websites

When a browser has received the code files and other assets that make up a web page (as covered in How the web works), how are they put together to create the finished experience that the user interacts with?

This article covers the processes that happen in-between a user entering a web address in a browser and a web page showing up as a result.
