Description of the issue: For the last week, Brave Browser on my Mac Studio keeps signing me out of Google when I open a new tab. I have checked the clear browsing data section and it shouldn’t be doing this. I have no issues on my Windows and Mac laptops.
@yeygermeister can you please fill out the information that you removed from the editor when you went to post this topic? That information is helpful for us in support. You can find the template you removed here.
Additionally, can you try resetting cache/permissions for google.com as well and see if this makes any difference? You can do this by visiting Google.com, clicking the “tune” icon to the left of the URL, then Site settings --> Delete data and Reset permissions.
I don’t have “Forget me when I close this site” selected. I also deleted the data and reset permissions, and it still asks me to sign in everytime I open a new tab
@yeygermeister Let me try to slip in some questions here.
To confirm, this only happens with Google or does this also happen on other websites?
You aren’t having to close the browser but simply are opening in a new tab?
Have you selected anything like Block All Cookies for any Google products/services? Keep in mind that YouTube, Google, Gmail, etc all tend to share the same login cookies. So a setting on any one of those can impact the others.
Do note that this would include settings at brave://settings/content/siteData
Does disabling Shields seem to prevent this from happening?
Are you using any extensions?
Can you test on Brave Beta or Brave Nightly to see if it happens on them as well?
This only happens on Google, although my Brave browser keeps switching back to light theme (it should be dark). Again, this only happens on the Brave Browser on my Mac studio. I don’t have this issue with my other computers.
This happens when I open a new tab and go to www.google.com
I have not.
Even when I disable the shield, it still happens.
I had AdGuard blocker on. I switched it off, it didn’t make a difference.
I tested it on Brave Beta, and I remain logged into Google.
If the issue does not occur in the Beta then whatever is happening is likely isolated to the profile you’re using. Typically when this happens it’s due to:
Shields settings – this does not appear to be the case since the issue occurs for you even with Shields = down.
Conflict with an installed extension – you can test this by either disabling the extensions you have installed and try to reproduce the error, or by creating a fresh browser profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile), closing your original profile then trying to reproduce the issue in the newly created profile.
Can you please [re]verify that all of the above is not the source of this issue?
Tried deleting the accounts.google specific data, it didn’t work. I have two Google profiles signed in; my personal and work accounts. For some reason now, it keeps loading my work account, I switch to my personal profile, open new tab then google.com, and it is using my work as it’s default.
Instead of having to create an entirely new profile (I have many saved passwords, addresses, credit cards etc), isn’t it easier to just use Brave Beta on my Mac Studio?
Creating the new profile was just another test to confirm that the issue is specific to your main profile. Note that adding a new profile doesn’t delete your old one, so its safe to perform the test.
If you are fine with using the Beta then you’re more than welcome to do that – it just not an actual solution/explanation for the initial problem.
Understood, I’d also like to solve the original problem, and I appreciate your assistance. I created a new profile on the non-beta Brave, and it remains logged into the correct Google account when I open a new tab.
I disabled all extensions, also quit and restarted the browser and it still switches back to my work profile on new tab. So I signed out of both profiles, signed into my personal Google account first, my work second, and it seems to be resolved
