Description of the issue: Hi, I have Brave Android configured to delete all data when closing the application. This does work, but i found out that when looking into “app-info” in Android settings, Brave had about 500 Mb of “user data“. What is that? This data does slowly increase over time. I then cleared all app data, reconfigured Brave to delete everything when closing the app. The usage data was now a zero, but again, it started increasing over time.
How can this issue be reproduced?
-
configure Brave Android to clear all data on exit
-
use Brave as usual
-
check “user data” in the “app info” of Brave and see the data amound increase.
Expected result:
There shouldn’t be any “user data“ after closing the app, because it should be deleted on exit as configured.
Brave Version 1.84.141 (Android, Playstore)
Mobile Device details: Pixel 7a (Graphene OS)
Can you show me where you’re seeing a “user data” entry in the app info menu? On my end, in Android app info, I can see Mobile data and Storage but not User data. It may be a setting specific to the Pixel device you’re using.
Actually I found an image of the app info page for a Pixel 7. As I understand it, the User data listed here is anything specific to your browser profile that is “yours”. Things like UI settings, bookmarks, form data, search engines/search engine config, etc. will be stored here.
When you clear your browsing data, it will fully clear whatever you have it set to clear, but these settings/entries will stay – otherwise you would lose your bookmarks, search engines, etc. each time you closed the browser.
I will ask a couple Android team members to confirm but I believe this is the case.
I believe on Graphene OS (which they said they were using as well), it’s a combo of Cache and Data. On my OnePlus, the users reported size kind of matches a combo of mine, but I’ve obviously not cleared cache in some time.
So the bulk of it is likely cache.
