Bookmark icon on toolbar not showing popup to move, edit, or delete bookmark

Description of the issue: On the Desktop/Windows version of the Brave web browser, when I tried to either bookmark a tab or edit/remove an existing bookmark by clicking on the “Bookmark this tab”/“Edit bookmark for this tab” icon on the toolbar next to the address bar, no pop-up allowing me to edit the bookmark appears. In the former case, the bookmark is added in the location of my last added bookmark (and one time, it starts to appear, but vanishes before it finishes), with the name and URL being as expected; in the latter, nothing happens. I need to go to the Bookmarks Manager to move, edit, and delete my bookmarks.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open the Brave web browser application.

  2. Navigate to any webpage, or stay on the New Tab. It does not matter whether the webpage was bookmarked.

  3. Click on the “Bookmark this tab” (or “Edit bookmark for this tab”) icon on the toolbar.

Expected result: A pop-up will render, confirming that the bookmark has been added (if it wasn’t already) and allowing the user to edit the bookmark (name, location, removal, etc.).

Brave Version (check About Brave): 1.84.139

Additional Information: I encountered this problem recently (either Wednesday, November 12, 2025, or Thursday, November 13, 2025, Central Standard Time). It is possible that the bug appeared before then; I cannot remember if the last bookmark I made before experiencing the bug was also around that time or on October 5 this year. It is also possible that the bug is caused by something on my local computer - I downloaded Signal for Windows last week, on November 9 - however, this is unlikely, as I am experiencing the same bug even after exiting the Signal application.

Thank you for your support.

Hello HeathM,

It still happens in a fresh Brave profile - both the default guest profile and a dummy test profile I just created. I have not tried using the Brave Beta or Nightly release.

I also found out that several other buttons on the toolbar have the same problem: namely, the “View site information”, “Show sidebar”, “Wallet”, “Brave VPN”, “Extensions”, “Return Youtube Dislike” (one of my extensions on my Brave toolbar), and Brave Profile buttons.

Moreover, when I try to open a different Brave window (or the “Screen Recorder” extension), it blinks and hides behind the current Brave window. Then, if I minimize this window to access the window I want, I am unable to open the “Customize and control Brave” button or select the address bar or any text boxes on the webpage until I move the window I want to use.

I think these bugs are all related.

Thank you.

I downloaded Brave Beta and tested it there - it seems that Brave Beta (version 1.85.102) doesn’t have this problem. Hopefully, this means that the next Brave update will fix this bug.

(I also updated the normal Brave browser to version 1.84.141; however, the problem persists here.)

Re the Bookmark this tab / Edit bookmark for this tab button near the left end of the Brave Browser URL Address Field, have you tested key combinations:

  • Press and hold down the Control key and then click on the button?
  • Press and hold down the Alt key and then click on the button?

Hello 289wk.

I haven’t tried that; however, the problem seems to have gone away. The pop-up appears when I add/edit bookmarks now, and I can also access the other extensions on my toolbar without them flickering. Brave is still on version 1.84.141 (I don’t recall the Chromium version - right now it’s 142.0.7444.176), so it may have been something on my computer, or it could be an inconsistent bug. I’ll leave the topic open in case it reappears, and I will try your suggested fixes if and when it does.

Thank you.
