Quicker way to edit bookmarks on mobile

Description of the issue: It’s a hassle to edit a bookmark on the mobile Brave browser. You have to go through the bookmarks manager, which is cumbersome when you have a lot of bookmarks from over 15 years.

How can this issue be reproduced?:

  1. Clicking on a bookmarked link to open it in a tab
  2. There is no bookmark icon on the mobile browser like on desktop, nor the option to add “Edit Bookmark” in the “My Action” menu when you tap the three dots.
  3. Currently, you need to scroll down the whole bookmarks list and find the one you need to edit to do so on the mobile Brave browser.

Expected result: I’d like the ability to add the bookmark icon to the tabs bar on mobile that the Brave browser has on desktop and the option to add “Edit Bookmark” in the “My Actions” menu settings when you tap on the three dots while your current tab is on the pre-existing bookmark, like in Chrome. It was much more convenient and quick to have those features available.

@ChaoticMeow21 Let me walk you through some things here.

As you can see in my screenshot below, there indeed is one. But this is requiring that you choose it. Go to Brave’s Settings → Shortcut Button, then select Bookmarks to appear. So screenshot right below shows me looking at this on my iPhone and the bookmark icon up top to view and edit bookmarks. Then the screenshot below that is the options in the Shortcut Button setting.

If you’re actually adding bookmarks, there are at least two ways. I just press and hold down on the tab switcher box and it opens the context menu as you can see in the first screenshot below. Then hit Add Bookmark and set it.

But then as you can see in the screenshots below, you can rearrange your three dot menu in whichever order you want. I have Add Bookmark on the top there. Top right of that menu is the Edit button to change your menu order, where you can add/remove or rearrange each item.

Yeah, this I can agree with. The add to bookmarks buttons turns into edit bookmark on Chrome for iPhone.

On this one though, I think Brave more closely resembles how Safari and/or Firefox does things. When I just tested on Safari I didn’t see an edit one like you’re hoping for. Instead it worked a bit similar to how Brave is doing things. So likely this just was something inherited more upstream.

I would be curious if @Mattches can tag one of the devs to see if they can make this modification.

Sorry…last reply. But on this, what you have on your laptop will also show on mobile. Do you not have both devices syncing bookmarks using Brave’s Sync? You wouldn’t need to be doing all of this adding and editing.

Thank you so much for your quick response, Saoiray! I really appreciate it. I was able to add the “Add Bookmark” and “Bookmark” to the “My Actions” menu as you had instructed.

Although one thing that I had explained incorrectly in my initial post was the “bookmark icon in the mobile browser, like on the desktop browser.”

Sorry, I meant this bookmark icon below in the Brave desktop browser, where you could see whether or not the link has been saved already. And where you could edit the bookmark quickly, rather than needing to scroll through your bookmarks:

Then you can edit the bookmark quickly when you click on the icon.

In the Chrome mobile browser, it doesn’t have the small icon, but rather this as shown below:

Then you can quickly edit the saved bookmark by clicking on “Edit Bookmark.”

It was not only convenient to edit a saved bookmark this way, but it also helped to know that the link was already saved to my bookmarks. I tend to forget whether or not I have saved a website since I hyper-fixate on topics and like to read online a lot as well. That’s why I have an obscene amount of bookmarks over 15 years. It would also help to prevent duplicate bookmarks.

To my current knowledge, after searching online, I don’t think there’s currently a way to know whether or not a bookmark has already been made on the same website if you return to it later on the Brave mobile browser. Even when I click on the link that I know I have saved, it only looks like so in the “My Actions” menu.

Here I’m on the lofi.cafe website that I have saved in the Brave mobile browser:

And in the “My Actions” menu, it doesn’t indicate whether or not the website has already been bookmarked, nor have an easy way to edit the bookmark, like I had shown above in the Chrome mobile browser.

That’s why I added that I wanted the ability to add “Edit Bookmark” in the “My Actions” menu settings in the Expected Results in my initial post. Having either the option of the small bookmark icon on the address bar or the option to add “Edit Bookmark” in the “My Actions” menu would help to solve my issue on the matter of convenience.

I hope I explained it more clearly this time around. Again, thank you so much for the timely response to my first post, Saoiray!

Regarding the issue of syncing bookmarks from Chrome to Brave. I do have Sync on, but I think it’s just a matter of having an obscene and unnecessarily large number of bookmarks to transfer over. I’ll just have to deal with it myself. I don’t think there’s a way to help me on that part, even though I’ve resynced once before in a new Sync chain.
