After updating Brave to version 1.91.169, the browser cannot load any websites at all, acting as if there is no internet connection. However, the internet connection (both Wi-Fi and mobile data) is perfectly normal and working on all other apps. Downgrading back to the previous version (1.90.128) immediately resolves the issue, and websites load normally again.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Install Brave version 1.91.169 (replicated via Google Play Store, Aurora Store, and APKMirror).
Ensure the device is connected to a working Wi-Fi or mobile data network.
Open Brave and try to navigate to any website.
The page fails to load, behaving as though the device is offline.
Expected result:
Websites should load normally on version 1.91.169, just as they do on version 1.90.128.
Brave Version (check About Brave):
Broken Version: 1.91.169 (429116904)
Working Version (Downgraded): 1.90.128 (429012804) — Currently using this version as a workaround.
Mobile Device details:
Device: Google Pixel 4a (5G)
OS: Android 16
Additional Information:
I have tried clean-installing the broken version (1.91.169) from three different sources (Google Play Store, Aurora Store, and APKMirror), but the issue persists across all of them. Only downgrading to 1.90.128 fixes the problem.
Beta & Nightly versions also broken: I tested Brave Beta (v1.92.117) and Brave Nightly (v1.93.40), and both exhibit the exact same issue (no internet connection/pages won’t load).
Cross-device testing: I tested the exact same Brave version (1.91.169) on a Xiaomi Redmi 8a Dual running Android 10, and it works perfectly normal there.
We’ve seen some other users report this as well but it’s unclear as to exactly why. The amount of reports isn’t particularly high so it’s likely something specific to the device, OS, system settings/setup, etc.
I’ve reached out to the Android team about this. Will let you know what I find out.
Additional information: I just tested it again using Brave Beta (v1.92.120) and Brave Nightly (v1.93.57), they cannot even load internal pages like chrome://flags or chrome://about.
Another important update: It looks like the issue specifically started in Chromium version 149. I tested Chromium 148-based browsers like Opera and Vivaldi as above, and they work perfectly fine. Even the older Google Chrome (version 148.0.7778.217, which is also based on Chromium 148) works without any issues.
To confirm this, I also tested Brave Beta (v1.91.163) and Brave Nightly (v1.92.91) which are based on Chromium 148, and both work flawlessly without any issues.
Yeah it looks like this is a Chromium issue that should be resolved with the update we’re releasing today. Please ensure you update to the latest build and let me know if the issue resolves itself for you.
I just went back to Chrome. I find Brave has too many issues. Just like you, I had webpages acting the same way. Maybe in the future I will try it again
