Add a JavaScript "kill switch" for any website

As documented in recent articles like “The 49MB Web Page”, the use of JavaScript, mostly to serve ads, is out of control and has severe negative impacts on the browsing experience. Prominent Mac expert John Gruber has long maintained that it was a mistake to even make browsers scriptable.

The iPhone browser “Quiche” has gotten rave reviews for providing a simple “kill switch” for JavaScript on any website. The state of this switch is remembered on repeated visits to the site. Of course it can be turned off at any desired time.

Please add this to Brave! (and not just desktop, but all versions) Thank you.

As mentioned, this is already there, and has been there. If this isn’t what you are talking about you might need to explain a little more, because Block scripts does indeed block Java Scripts.

Good to know, thank you. However, this is much less convenient than a simple toggle or button in the main UI to enable/disable scripts (with memory). It could be displayed or hidden at user option.

I always feel like it’s a bit of a “project” to open and wade through Brave’s massive collection of settings. It really interrupts the “flow”, if you know what I mean.

The choice in Settings could be to enable/disable globally, while my proposed kill switch would apply to individual websites/pages.

Huh? It IS a simple toggle in the main UI.

This choice here is literally PER site.

You’ve tried nothing, haven’t you? You’re just talking about features that not only exist, you haven’t even tried once to use.

On my system, the little lion head has a tooltip that says “Brave Shields”. When I click it, a menu drops down with a bunch of options, one of which is a switch to “Block scripts”. Is this what you mean? Not quite as convenient as what I was proposing, but I can live with it. Are these settings remembered on a page-by-page basis? Or site-by-site?

I also answered this in the previous comment.
