YouTube not loading

i seem to be having issues loading youtube recently while using brave, cleared my cookies, browsing history and it works but if i close it and reopen it, i get this

r/brave_browser - Issues loading youtube|750xauto

also tried removing the shield and works with no issues. i dunno if this is a shitty UK thing or a wider issue.

seems to work find in private window.
i’ve checked brave://components is fully up-to-date.

anyone know the fix ?
cheers

i think this fixed it, i changed it and it seemes to work, will find out later if i try reopening it.

thanks

I also noticed this odd behaviour on Youtube, starting on saturday oct. 4th.
Using the brave://flags page, and searching for “ANGLE”, I was able to change the renderer from default (which I assume was D3D11) to D3D9, and now there is also a picture on Youtube, and not just sound.

BUT!
D3D9 is so much more unstable, and uses so much more CPU than D3D11 ever did. At least on my computer. With unstable I mean that the video buffers a lot more, and there are more dropped frames than before.

Is it possible that it is Youtube that has changed something in their videos, so that D3D11 no longer works for us Brave users?
I did not update anything on saturday, and Brave was already at version 1.83.109.

Of course D3D9 rendering is good enough for now, but it would be great to be able to use D3D11 again.

Brave just updated to 1.83.112. Still unable to use D3D11.

@Vige btw, if you test on Chrome, don’t you experience the same issue? Feedback received from others pointed this to be more of an upstream issue, though also is some oddity with each individual’s OS. I’ve had mine set to Default and am not experiencing any issue in the slightest here on Windows 11 Pro.

I just downloaded and installed Chrome. And yes, exact same issue on Chrome as well. No picture on Youtube (only sound) with D3D11. With D3D9 there’s picture and sound.

@Vige thanks for confirming. This usually means it’s an issue that would need to be fixed by the Chromium team rather than Brave, assuming it’s something they decide to address.

Just to clarify, I’m not with Brave, only another user. I’m basing this on what I’ve seen over the years helping others here. In most cases, issues that come from Chromium aren’t handled by Brave unless they pose a major security or privacy risk, or if the browser becomes unusable because of them. As annoying as I know this would be for you, this wouldn’t necessarily fall under either category so am assuming it’s not going to be a priority fix for Brave and they’ll wait for the upstream change to arrive in Chromium.

@Vige out of curiosity, do you have an NVIDIA 10 series card?

No, GTX 960. Ancient, I know  .

But I tried the command line argument -–use-angle=gl. And it works really well!
I’ve seen posts that OpenGL shouldn’t work at all. But no, in this case it works very well.

@Vige yeah, just asking as a lot of people share opinions. So someone earlier tagged me on something and linked to https://www.reddit.com/r/ChromiumBrowser/comments/1o2w6xx/blank_video_playback_with_hdr_angle_d3d11_on/

What I was trying to investigate was this claim:

Systems effected: Multiple systems with NVIDIA 10 series GPUs confirmed, Windows 10 & 11 both effected

I wasn’t seeing reference to the NVIDIA 10 series until that post. Had me questioning validity. I’m on a 3080 and so could have contributed to being why I haven’t had problems. But it is what it is. Always so many moving factors on things and people are so quick to share opinions or jump to conclusions, lol.

I mean, it still might be partly to do with it, but I’m curious more about the driving force. Regardless, we at least know it’s an upstream Chromium thing for them to figure out and fix.
