YouTube fullscreen + Alt+Tab causes duplicate tabs on Brave 1.80.125 (Chromium 138)

On Brave version 1.80.125 (Chromium 138.0.7204.184), when playing YouTube in fullscreen mode and then pressing Alt + Tab to switch to another window, the browser duplicates the YouTube tab — sometimes opening multiple copies of it.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open YouTube video in Brave.
  2. Make it fullscreen.
  3. Press Alt + Tab to switch to another window.
  4. Observe the YouTube tab being duplicated (sometimes more than once).

Expected Result:
No duplicate tab should be created. The fullscreen session should pause or remain in place.

Actual Result:
One or more new tabs are opened with the same YouTube video.

Tested On:

  • Brave: 1.80.125
  • Chromium: 138.0.7204.184
  • OS: Windows 11
  • GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4050 Laptop GPU 6GB GDDR6
  • Extensions: Happens even in Incognito Mode

Notes:

  • Does not happen in Microsoft Edge (Chromium Version 138.0.3351.121 (Official build) (64-bit))
  • Happens consistently with YouTube fullscreen

Doesn’t happen when I just tested. I’m on the same version of Brave, on Windows 11 Pro, and using NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080. So close enough that if it’s something innate in the browser I should be seeing it I would think.

If you create a second browser profile and test there without changing settings or adding extensions, does it happen there as well?

Fair in terms of Chromium, but generally best to test in Chrome for better comparison.

I also would suggest maybe testing in Brave Beta or Brave Nightly to see if it happens there as well.

I have followed your instructions, but I don’t know why. Somehow the problem has disappeared, even when I use my main profile. If I have the same problem again, I’ll let you know. Thank you so much.
