Wise occasionally treats Brave as a new device (requires email verification) despite persistent cookies

Description of the issue:

Wise occasionally treats the same Brave browser on the same Windows PC as a new device and requires an additional email verification (3FA: password + email + phone).

Most logins only require password + phone verification, but every few days Wise suddenly asks for email verification again, despite using the same Brave profile, same device and same network.

Wise’s own documentation mentions that privacy-focused browsers can make a device appear new, but I’m trying to understand whether this intermittent behavior is expected with Brave or if there’s a setting that could improve compatibility.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Use Brave as the primary browser for Wise.
  2. Log in and trust the device when prompted.
  3. Continue using the same Windows PC and Brave profile for several days.
  4. Eventually, Wise asks for email verification again, treating the browser as a new device.

Actual Result:

Most logins require password + phone verification only. Occasionally, Wise also requires email verification as if the device were new.

Expected result:

Once a device is trusted, it should remain trusted unless browser data is cleared or the device/browser actually changes.

Reproduces how often:

Intermittently. Not every login. Approximately every few days (I haven’t identified a clear pattern yet).

Operating System and Brave Version:

  • Windows 11
  • Brave v1.92.134 (64-bit)

Additional Information:

  • Shields are disabled for wise.com.
  • Cookies are allowed and persist across browser restarts.
  • “Forget me when I close this site” is OFF.
  • CCleaner no longer deletes Brave cookies.
  • The issue still occurs, which makes me suspect this could be related to Brave’s fingerprint randomization interacting with Wise’s device recognition rather than cookie persistence.

Has anyone else experienced this with Wise or other banking sites?
