When opening the Brave Browser it shows up blank, freezes a little bit, then closes itself

@J.O.S just fyi, with it currently be in Friday night it probably will be a while before support can take a look at things. Typically they only work Monday through Friday, with any American holidays and weekends off. So just will have to be a little patient.

Thank you for the heads up. I’m looking forward to hearing any updates hopefully by Monday the earliest.

@Saoiray @Mattches It’s almost the end of Thursday. Do either of you know if Brave support has looked into the Uploaded Crash Report ID?

Just pinged the relevant devs again, hope to have more information for you soon.

I’ve been patient, but this is ridiculous. Why hasn’t there been an update? It’s been 2 weeks since I submitted the Uploaded Crash Report ID. The holidays are almost here, and I fear having to wait until next year which is inexcusable.

Sometimes, a Windows OS user has, with BB not running:

  • Moved the “BraveSoftware” folder to another location.
  • Quit everything and restarted the PC
  • Started Brave Browser
  • Found the “Bookmarks” file in their Profile (usually “Default” folder) within a sub-folder of the “BraveSoftware” folder . . . and copied that to their new “Default” folder.

IOW, if you remove the “BraveSoftware” folder, then, with the subsequent startup, Brave builds a whole new “BraveSoftware” folder.

@Mattches just wanted to tag you in on it again. Not sure if able to provide any more information or assistance ahead of the holidays. Thanks.

cc: @steeven and @Evan123.

Sorry for the late reply. It looks like it’s likely an upstream bug that’s waiting on a fix — possibly related to this:

https://issues.chromium.org/issues/341688004

@J.O.S is it possible for you to reproduce the crash and submit another ID so that we can confirm this?

Because I want this error to finally be over with, I’ll give you 3 Uploaded Crash Report IDs in case it shows differences that can be remedied that sending only 1 wouldn’t provide.

  1. 58370b00-ea01-180d-0000-000000000000
  2. 7c360b00-ea01-180d-0000-000000000000
  3. 65350b00-ea01-180d-0000-000000000000

I hope that it doesn’t take another 2 weeks to hear something.

Forwarded to the appropriate devs, hope to hear back from them soon.

As I predicted, I haven’t heard anything in regards to my issue for the remainder of 2024 since Mattches last posted on December 20th. Now that the holidays are over, can you please let me know if the 3 Uploaded Crash Reports helped solved the upstream bug?

@J.O.S in case you missed it, his note is as follows:

Holidays always have delays. People have lives outside of work and they do things like take vacations to spend time with their families. We’ll be seeing them all start to return next week.

Hey @Mattches, what’s the hold up?

@Saoiray there’s no need to talk to me in a patronizing tone. I’m frustrated that it’s been more than a month since I created the thread and it’s taking forever to get updates on a solution.

It’s been exactly a month since you wrote this, @Mattches. Can you please check with them again or let me know if I need to send more Uploaded Cash Report IDs?

This issue was opened regarding the crashing you’re seeing:

I am being told that it is a Chromium based issue but a strange one and one that they do not appear to be tracking at this time.

Thank you for replying. When you say that the issue is not being tracked at this time by the developers, do you mean that my issue isn’t at their top priority?

Sorry to bother you @Mattches but can you find out from iefremov or anyone else that would be involved with fixing the crash issue how much longer until they start working on it?

No worries — sorry for the long wait time here. I haven’t heard anything back but have just pinged them again for any updates they can provide.

Much obliged for your help.

Any updates? I’ve seen a video on YouTube that Firefox is now going to sell user input data to advertisers and prevent users from using the browser that they see as problematic and that makes me miss using Brave even more. For now I’ll use Brave Beta as my default browser.
