@289wk I created another user account, but when I restart my computer, it automatically logs into the main account and doesn’t prompt me to choose an account. The only way for me to change to the other account is to sign out of the current account. Is there something that I’m doing wrong?
I have no idea what this means. If you think that this may help then please elaborate better.
@Mattches I don’t know if you saw my last post from last week on getting an update in the crash issue.
Go to: (insert your user acount)
C:\Users\INSERTYOURUSERACCOUNT\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data
In that directory there is a “local state” file that holds flag details and specific configured settings. Cut that file out of the directory and paste it somewhere else. (desktop for example) Try loading the browser afterwards. if it loads, there is a issue with a flag, custom script, or setting you configured. If it doesn’t load replace the file back. (brave will recompile a new local state that you would replace if it doesn’t fix it)
Your bookmarks can be found: (insert your user account and profile name) Same copy and paste method.
C:\Users\INSERTYOURUSERACCOUNT\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\INSERTPROFILENAME
Trial and error till you find the cause. It’s all just coding in the end.
The bookmarks file will be viewable by notepad. Will have a tree structure but you can get the links if needed. Unsure whether it would be compatible between the different brave versions.
It changed the Windows compatibility mode to Windows 8. I tested the program, and the browser opened with a full blank window and then it closed itself after around a minute or so.
Here posting again so the thread doesn’t close automatically. @Mattches can you ask the team again? I can’t believe that there is no updates since the issue was opened on January 20th.
@J.O.S,
Thank you for keeping the thread open – I do apologize for how long it’s been to resolve this. I have messaged the thread we have for this internally, more aggressively this time in hopes I can get more eyes on this. I completely understand your frustration and truly appreciate your patience here.
Hallelujah! Someone finally posted on the GitHub thread. To answer Brave-Matt, I’m willing to work with you guys because I trust the Brave Browser out of the other popular ones, mainly due to security and not making my computer run slower. So please, don’t give up, especially if there are more people that are also dealing with the same problem.
I’ve been really patient with someone trying to fix the submitted bugs, but but I feel like I’m living in Groundhog Day. Whoever @Mattches/Brave-Matt is telling to fix my issue are ignoring it. I haven’t seen any progress in the close to 5 months since the problem is opened up on GitHub.
So when someone tells the support team again on the issue, I want that person to have their reply screen capped on this thread so I will then know that someone will take responsibility and if that person doesn’t solve the issue by next month, then that person should be held accountable for their reneging.
@J.O.S been a while since touched on this and we have a lot of info discussed. I skimmed through just now but didn’t look in detail. Can you just confirm for me:
You’re still on Windows 10? And I guess, you’re not willing or able to go to Windows 11? (especially as we’re nearing end of life support for Windows 10…which is in October)
The issue happens on all versions of Brave or still is only on Release? Just trying to see if you’re saying it still has no problem in Beta
Have you been able to update Brave? I know maybe auto update wouldn’t work since you were saying it’s not opening, but perhaps another manual update by downloading from the site and installing on top of what you have?
This issue was only happening for Brave, right? No issue with Chrome or anything?
You wouldn’t happen to be able to do a screen grab of the process, would you? This may be pointless to ask but I guess part of me was wondering if there would be any clues in a video. Just one of those things where I figure wouldn’t hurt to ask, but no guarantee it would be any help at all either.
I’m still on Windows 10 and I don’t plan on upgrading to Windows 11.
I’ve been using Brave Beta until this issue gets fixed with the full release. I was using FireFox until Mozilla started selling privacy info of their users.
When I try to download the latest version of Brave, it’s telling me Virus Scan Failed. I’ve been having this problem with all the browsers that I have recently.
This issue only applies to Brave.
I don’t think that there’s any reason to post a screencap because I already uploaded 4 Uploaded Crash Report IDs.
This sounds like it could be a big clue. Have you tried disabling the antivirus that you have that might be causing that? I’m wondering if it may even be what’s preventing it from loading to begin with.
I watched this YouTube video to fix the issue. At first it worked, but now it doesn’t again. Prior to watching the video I disabled the antivirus software and didn’t fix the problem. I don’t know when this problem started, but it was after creating this thread.
