Videos/Streams keep Lagging, stuttering, & stuck loading

2nd Update: Turned OFF Hardware Ex with BAMFR & MFAA both OFF. No Issues accruing other than stuff taking longer to load because hardware ex is off. guess I’ll keep it like this until i need to turn it back on for websites that require it.

Wait, what? Graphics/Hardware acceleration or what are you referencing with Ex?

To be clear, if it’s hardware/graphics acceleration off, then it means it’s skipping your graphics card and just putting the burden on your CPU via software renderer. If you’re seeing anything of an improvement with that, it just guarantees it’s graphics setting incompatibility like we said before.

Pain in the butt is just determining what it is to change.

Yes sorry. I meant Hardware acceleration. These are my current settings for brave.

@Popdupe don’t know if there’s going to be any big hints here, but I guess I’ll share my details. I do see differences in our settings, such as how I have Anisotropic filtering as application controlled and you have it off.

NVIDIA Control Panel for Brave

NVIDIA Control Panel, Global Settings (Since things like Image Scaling didn’t specify its setting on the program specific beyond mentioning global)

Brave Flags (what I’ve changed)

  • Skia isn’t necessary but I saw some improvements in areas, so I have that.
  • Smooth scrolling is much better when scrolling through content. Once I discovered it, have always left it on.
  • Brave’s AI Browsing I haven’t used but a few times, experimental thing. That has its own profile so wouldn’t really be applicable to this, but yeah…

NVIDIA Settings/Performance

Did I convert someone to the dark Dawn Graphite side when I said it really does seem to improve quite a bit? :joy: Or did you already know?

@Saoiray Thank you for your patience with this issue.

I’ve applied all NVIDIA control panel settings.

Enabled Skia Graphite

4090 GPU is already overclocked

I let it run for a while & no lag happened. Everything was running smoothly. I did get one huge loading spike on all videos/streams playing. @MasterLink Surprisingly enough, un-full screening the browser stopped the loading spike & everything continued back to normal on all videos/streams. This really surprised me… weird. But nothing like earlier where it would lag/stutter every 10-15 seconds from 1 video & stream playing.

I’ll report tomorrow again. Hopefully no issues come up.

I’ve noticed some quirks with Brave and GPU’s. For example, nearly every web browser on Windows 11 defaults to using the iGPU if you use a laptop for example as web browsers shouldn’t need powerful GPU’s. But Brave? Oddly Windows classifies it as needing a high performance GPU (even though iGPU’s can indeed run it just fine without these issues).

I wonder why this is, or why Nvidia users appear to be having more issues than AMD users such as myself. About all AMD users get are colorful square glitches, solved by using Skia Graphite. (But, oddly Nvidia users also report fixes with Graphite too.)

Hopefully no issues pop up as well. Ultimately if nothing creeps up, see if Skia Graphite was the only fix required. I think it might be time that Brave ships with this enabled by default, ahead of other Chromium forks.

(Though, most of the issues I’ve seen solved with Graphite, also happen on Edge, Chrome, and Chromium as well.)

Been a while but i can confirm I’m not having any issues. I’m a happy man. Thank you all.

Here’s the question. You read a post about someone having the same issues you were, what would you tell them? lol

That’s the hard part, at least for me. Especially as not really sure if it was any particular setting. Just knew it was a graphics compatibility thing. Eventually kind of threw the kitchen sink at it and it’s now working well.

If I didn’t know how the issue was occurring or what was happening, I would’ve definitely did the same troubleshooting you were doing. Knowing it’s a graphics compatibility issue like you said, then pointing them to NVIDIA Control Panel. And again like you said, figuring out what to change would be the main pain point. Even now I don’t know if it was 1 setting that solved the issue or if it was multiple setting that lead to the issue being resolved. lol yea but i would prob say something like “Turn on/change one setting at a time until you notice videos/streams don’t lag”

But thanks to you & others input I would just redirect them to this thread & not go through that hell.
