Updating Brave by Reinstalling

Description of the issue: When I open Brave, a message appears in the top right corner saying “Can’t Update Brave, Brave couldn’t update to the latest version” with a button to reinstall it.

If I reinstall it, I get another Brave browser which I can only open by typing brave-browser in the terminal. Clicking on the Brave icon in my start menu gets me the older version. Only the older version has all my bookmarks and I can’t import them.

To sum up, in order to use the updated browser, I have the dual inconveniences of of starting using the terminal, and not having my bookmarks.

Additional Information: I am running Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon V 6.2.9

What happens if it’s updated through apt?

It sounds like you installed a flatpack or snap (hence how there’s two different versions now), those are NOT recommended by Brave because it’s sandboxed. They have an official script which if used, allows apt to do the updates like any other system update honestly.
