The Dutch DigiD login doesn't work on Brave desktop and mobile

Description of the issue: In the Netherlands it is mandatory to use DigiD as a login method for governmental en communal things like Insurance, Taxes and all other governmental subjects. Since more then a year the login gives problems (so I need to use an alternative browser for that) and now it also doesn’t work on mobile anymore.

Exact URL of the website in question: https://digid.nl/inloggen Then use “Met De DigiD-app“ button. You need to have the App installed on your phone. When using the app to login the app works like 2FA, but accepting the login in the app the website on the desktop doesn’t login. With other browsers this works like a charm.

Please fix this for desktop users. I work on MacOS (15.6.1) and my mobile app runs on Android 16

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no): No

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? Yes

I don’t have a login, https://digid.nl/inloggen loaded okay, but can’t go any further. Where does it fail, happy to jump on a call for some testing

You need to be a Dutch citizen to be able to login. The login is issued by the government. Is there a Dutch developer on your team to work on this?

And yes, otherwise we can try together on a call.

When I want to log in, I need the DigiD app, which serves as a kind of MFA.

here on the first page I choose the option to log in with the DigiD app.

On the second page, I get the option to use the app on this device or another device. I choose “On this device” because I have the DigiD app installed on the same device my phone.

The following page is somehow only in Dutch. This is an error, and it says that this login feature is only supported by the browsers mentioned, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

I suspect the problem is that the page somehow does not redirect to the DigiD app that is also installed on the device in question.

In the Chrome browser it works without any problems.

It is however all in Dutch (as far as I can tell).

Aah yes. This is another issue since the latest update of the DigiD app itself. You can solve that via the app standards config.

Go via settings > apps> digid > standard opening > links to open in this app

Click on that and confirm app.digid.nl and make sure the config is on open “in the app”

Since I did this on my phone within Brave it works again on mobile only. Still not via my computer where Brave doesn’t communicate with the MFA app.

Ah okay, not sure how it works on iOS. Also not sure if the thing I’m describing also happens on iOS devices combined with MacOS.
