When I was searching up secular literature’s definition on the search bar for my classes, and when I clicked the enter key it brought me to what seems to be the AI chatbot answer and I panicked and clicked to go back before it could load an overview, and I’m still wondering why it happened because I didn’t clicked the colored search icon with my cursor, because I specifically don’t want any Generative AI overviews and I’ve tried everything recommended to opt out of seeing this Generative AI stuff while I’m researching.
I unfortunately didn’t get any screenshot but has anyone else experienced this problem and how do I make sure this doesn’t happen again?
You may have accidentally highlighted the Ask Leo option in the search bar dropdown:
Note that you can block AI search results with Brave (for most popular search engines) by going to Settings --> Shields --> Content filtering and checking the Anti AI Search Filters option in the filter list:
Thanks for the answer! But I’ve already selected the Anti-Ai Search Filters months ago, so that can’t be the problem.
In that case I’m not sure why this would have happened. As far as I know the summary itself on the search results page itself should be blocked with that enabled. Can you try reproducing the issue again? I’d like to know the exact steps used and I’m assuming that you haven’t seen this AI summary appear since you initially enabled the AntiAI Search Filters right?
Sounds like your issue might be caused by the autocomplete feature. If I’m incorrect in that assumption then please let me know!
- Head to brave://settings/appearance
- Deselect “Leo AI Assistant”
- Test & verify by typing something in the address bar
This should stop ‘Ask Leo’ prompts from appearing when you type in the address bar.
Hi sorry I was dealing with mental health stuff, it’s already deselected, and it jumpscared me again today when I tried searching about Pope John Paul II for school.
This is making me upset.
