It would be great to see the addition of a keyboard shortcut which would allow users to switch to the last active tab. Like a lot of users, I tend to have a lot of tabs open. When I’m working on an Office 365 document (in-browser), Wiki page, or some thing that requires me to flip back and forth between two specific tabs for reference, it starts to get a little frustrating to have to grab the mouse and click between the two tabs repetitively.
I haven’t found a way to do this, nor have I seen a keyboard shortcut for this type of functionality. Is this something that could be put on the roadmap?
I agree that this would be a nice addition to Brave. Opera and Vivaldi have this, I know.
As a workaround for now, you could put your commonly used two tabs on the far left of the tab bar and use the Ctrl-1 and Ctrl-2 key combos to go back and forth between these two tabs.
Yeah I would love to see this. I’ve used Vivaldi and like how they have this setup feature. I’m surprised nobody else has mentioned anything about this.
In the “Appearance” Section of Settings, there is an item there called “Cycle through the most recently used tabs with Ctrl-Tab” → turn that option off or on (whatever your preference) and you should be all set.
yes that works, but I guess a lot of people would like to have both shortcuts available, I would like to have the shortcut to go to the next left/right tab and still have another shortcut to go to the most recently used tab, which is not possible by turning that option on/off
This is not a good solution since it changes the behavior of using the shortcuts ⌘ + [ or ⌘ + ] which is not clear. If it didn’t also change the behavior of the other shortcuts, then I would say this would be a win cause I would also love this feature. There are a lot of times when I need to bounce back and forth between two tabs.
It’s crazy that this was requested back in 2019 and there seems to be no response from devs and this has seemingly gone ignored. I can’t imagine this would be tough to implement.
I found a simple solution to switch to the last active tab on Brave by adding the extension “Quickey - The quick tab switcher”. Then I selected on Brave: Extension > Keyboard Shortcut. Under the extension “Quickey”, I set a shortcut “Alt + Z” for “Switch instantly between the two most recent tabs”. Working fine now.
@marlonr, have you checked within your browser settings? Go to Settings → System, and you’ll find a section labeled Shortcuts. There you can see existing shortcuts and you have the ability to add and edit your own keybinds.
So switching to last active would be something like:
However, @Mattches can you test this as well? When I did, it went to the last used tab, but then if I try using it again, nothing happens. It seems to be a one time use command?
Lmao, I’m dumb. So last tab is last on the list. Not the last used. I just used in that order and thought it worked that way. And all others just go one to the left, one to the right, or somewhere to a specific tab.
So while a lot was changed/added, it seems this one particular request may not be there yet.
