Description of the issue: Yesterday on the 9th, I got an update to 1.89.132 on Linux Mint. When I open the browser and play any YouTube video, I sometimes encounter an issue where the entire tab blinks about three times, and then the video buffers for an unusually long time. Maybe around 7 seconds. Those usually occur when the browser is closed/reopened or I restart my PC. Once the video plays, it stutters throughout, with worse stuttering during motion, but it is still noticeable either way.

Stats for nerds shows it constantly dropping frames. It never gets to the point where the video stops playing or buffers, but the resolution automatically lowers to try to compensate. This doesn’t have any affect on the issue. Video playback is normal on other sites like Rumble.

Exact URL of the website in question: https://www.youtube.com

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? Yes

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off? No

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no): No

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? Yes

Brave version (check About Brave): 1.89.132

What I’ve tried:

  1. Chrome and Firefox (both work fine).
  2. Private tab with extensions and Shields disabled (issue remains).
  3. Disabling extensions like h264ify (issue remains).
  4. Turning off hardware acceleration and relaunching (issue remains).
  5. Clearing all history, cookies, etc. (issue remains).

GPU:

GTX 1070M with 535.288.01-0ubuntu0.24.04.2 drivers (I think the default Brave uses)

Intel HD Graphics 630 (i7-7700HQ)
