Spell check language download failed

Description of the issue:
Spell check language pack download failed

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. click on hamburger menu
  2. click “Settings”
  3. click “Languages”
  4. click “Add languages”
  5. add another non-english language (I have tried Spanish, Slovak or Czech)
  6. allow new language in “Spell check” section by clicking on switch next to new language
  7. it should fail
  8. click “Retry”
  9. it should also fail

Expected result:
I fails with error message like…
“Spell check dictionary download failed.”
or
“Please check with your network administrator to make sure that the firewall is not blocking downloads from Brave servers.” (after retrying)

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Release Notes v1.50.114 (Apr 5, 2023)

Additional Information:
Linux Mint 20 mate with latest updates
ASUS laptop couple years old
Only other web browser installed is Firefox
I have tried with disabled VPN but same results
No antivirus or firewall enabled (that I know of)

I have the same issue on linux mint 21.1 vera. I am usign UFW firewall. Is there any workaround? What rules can I use. I deactivated UFW and I get same error, so its not due to UFW

Same issue, it is happening for about ONE week for everyone, surely it is Brave cause, they need to fix it somehow.

Surely they will fix it since it happened years ago, but I hope they fix it fast since It’s been annoying to use some sites with this issue :frowning:

That’s not firewall cause. I just reinstalled my windows about 3-4 times and even in other computer is happening the same thing.

Seems like Brave messed up with something with new update week ago.
