[Solved] Version 1.3.115 unusable on macOS 10.15.3 (pkd and lsd processes spin out of control)

Description of the issue:

  • Clean install of Brave 1.3.115
  • Inc. using “reset settings” feature to be sure
  • No extension installed
  • Leave Brave open for a few minutes
  • pkd (and lsd) processes will begin eating up all CPU
  • Eventually Brave itself locks up

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

  • Install Brave 1.3.115 on macOS 10.15.3
  • Leave open for a couple of minutes
  • Observe pkd process going to 100+% CPU
  • Killing Brave leaves pkd process open, also needs to be killed

Brave process should be stable

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

  • macOS 10.15.3
  • Brave 1.3.115

Additional Information:

I had been using Brave without issues for 1 year+. Since this morning it is now unusable. Nothing significant has changed on my local setup. Is 1.3.115 a new release? I’m sadly going back to Google Chrome until this issue can be resolved

I believe I got to the root of the problem; it was not Brave at all. It seems to have been something to do with my Xcode installation. Removing that (and then reinstalling) and this stopped happening
