Hey, Whomever Reads This,
Two months ago I went off on an extremely dramatic rant regarding Brave and its headlining of Wikipedia content. I did so because of a user created topic with that exact premise and a reply from the Brave Staff that didn’t support the suggestion, nor speak against it - which was absolutely the correct and right thing to do, furthermore - they suggested that the user submit feedback regarding their suggestion using the appropriate place to do so within the browser, this was also entirely correct. I had, and still have, absolutely no doubts that little to nothing would come of such feedback - I’ve been quite impressed with the Brave Team, I tend to think of the people behind this browser as the opposite of stupid, I still do.
I didn’t expect a reply tbh - I normally don’t when I get all ranty like that, but I did get one - from someone who has likely forgotten all about their reply or my rant itself. I feel I must clarify something - I don’t rant stuff for no reasons. I wanted to be very clear about how I feel about wikipedia - its not perfect but its the best universally accepted option, which will change if the “free-encyclopedia” market is fragmented by corpos trying to find more easily manipulated content from less reputable alternatives. All attempts to create another wikipedia have thus far failed - the idea of Brave paving the way for a competitor at the exact time the internet, and information itself, is being largely reduced to summarized displaying before search results - which I very much like but I’m also fairly quick to notice errors and correct AI, Leo (or whatever is built into Brave) actually rather excels at summary’s - when a lot of data is related the asked topic. Even very niche and specific inquiries are generally answered well enough - but if all/most of the results that Leo “reads” are themselves wrong/biased - it is often wrong at those times also, which is entirely forgiveable and not all that common of an occurrence. Its a quality setup - especially for free.
I don’t want that to change - its highly functional and isn’t broken, so I wanted to clearly establish that the other individual who initially created the topic and several comments - wasn’t the only person with an opinion, not even the only crazy person - I was/am now even, case-in-point proof. This is something I do quite often with businesses and corpos - bc its more effective, I often get replies being all dramatic, or super pissed off, than I do from polite, appropriate and intelligently formed arguments - on the same topic, in the same place with only the words used, ID identifiers and username changed, a “softer suggestion” is nearly always entirely ignored.
So, I rant, I freak out, intermixing valid facts and legitimate criticisms with profanities and logical fallicies. Much like MAGAs “debate” - bc that I know gets read, even if just to share amongst yourselves and laugh or ridicule me - but often its bc of literal company policy. It was Bill Gates, I believe without checking, who first said that, “A business or company doesn’t learn from the feedback of the majority of their users - they can really only utilize informative feedback from those who are most bought into their product or services (their very biased superfans) OR - those who most dislike and vehemently criticize their products and services - mostly bc only those two extremes care enough to provide any actual direct feedback at all” - I did paraphrase that, but I think its fairly close to being maybe accurate of something Bill once said multiple times.
The haters are always the loudest - the superfans are always to offset the haters, nobody else cares or will ever know of the shouting in forums near identical to this one here - most people will never think of the poor people who have to deal with such nonsense daily as part of their profession - their feedback will only ever be their useage shadows - or when they leave, after knowing no longer matters.
The extremes are always who Brave Support Staff are dealing with here - some are happy, some have agendas, some are angry - some rant, like this exactly. I’ve done this hundreds of times. I probably didn’t need to do any of that given the number of topics discussed here - which is not a jab, but very high praise. I did it without really thinking about it. Think nothing of it - other than that I clearly feel its the best way to “be heard” - bc I do, especially with Microsoft for some strange reason.
I do feel very strongly about Wikipedia and Brave tho - hence why I’m again off on another, even longer, rant. No worries tho - I don’t think this was particularly necessary now, or even 2 months ago, but… I did want to establish that this a line for me (and very likely probably a huge number of the silent majority too - its practically safe to assume, bc what else can you do?) and I’m here for the second time in my life, solely to reiterate this position.
→ I would also really appreciate it if the “Save all tabs” function saved to a specifc bookmark folder, titled as the date, automatically - I rarely tap that button when I have time, its a very lazy ask - but very functional, I have lots of folders I’ve randomly created that I use occasionally - I’ve lost the bookmark to an obscene amount of tabs, despite my literally saving them all for later. I’d really appreciate it - it would help immensely with my OCD regarding closing all the tabs I open but only after I review them, I’m being genuine in this feature request.
Otherwise - thanks for everything, thanks for reading - sorry to bother you like I would Mircosoft. You have all created an awesome product that I use near every day. I really appreciate all the hard work and commitment to your standards and the quality of your work.
Have a great day and all the best!
