Evan123 from the Brave’s support team just shared that self custody is now live in Nightly. It should be passing down to Beta and Release soon.
I’m still not sure if this means it will pass through normally, showing up around 1.83.xx or if they’ll uplift and we’ll see it sooner. I’ll post an update here when I see more solid information.
In the meanwhile, anyone using Nightly should see it as a default option, such as below:

Unless things have changed, Android will require you to use Brave Wallet.

Desktop can use extensions for other wallets, but you will need extension or Wallet as we sign for it which runs through.
Also a Solana balance will be needed in that wallet account. Part of the process of connecting will have a note like below:
Note: Creating a BAT account on Solana requires a small amount of SOL. Make sure you have enough SOL at your address before proceeding.
