Minor Update: March 24, 2025
I should have added this a week ago, but I really am struggling to understand exactly what Brave is doing. They have announced Rewards 3.0 Partner Programs and are saying we should see some pushes here soon towards all the new changes.
You can read about the Partner Program stuff at the link below.
My perspective:
From what I can see, a lot of what Brave is moving toward is a bit more of a niche demographic, of those who like to do a lot with cryptocurrency. I donāt like doing much in the realm of cryptocurrency so I donāt keep much interest in the things they are showing.
But for people who want to dive deeper into Web3 and cryptocurrency, there seems to be some opportunities for extra money. For example, they talk about CHOMP where you can link your wallet, play, and earn BAT.
Thereās also GuanoCoin where you can stake (I think is the right word) your BAT and earn GUANO coin. You can use SOL Incinerator to burn unwanted tokens for BAT as well. And I guess theyāll be consistently working with new partners to try to find ways to make BAT useful or give some ways to earn BAT outside of the traditional Rewards system.
Iām just hoping to see more specifics about things to come and how the changes will impact the average person, especially those who donāt want to deal a lot in Web3 and just was trying to do Rewards to earn for themselves and/or tip Creators.

Update April 14, 2025
Guess just an update to let everyone know thereās not really any updates. They are still adding people to Solana randomly and going through approvals for people requesting to join. The new UI is rolled out and we should be seeing more on the Offer Wall eventually.
Unfortunately they have been kind of quiet overall on Rewards for now and I have no idea of the things to come. About the newest they have said is this Reddit post talking about the new UI for Android. Yet no pictures shown and Iām assuming it was just them switching it over to the same or similar as Desktop.

UPDATE: June 14, 2025
I have a few things Iām going to point out.
-
The self custody waitlist is supposedly ending. Though I havenāt heard it from official sources yet, I do know we should be nearing.
-
Open access should be coming soon. Not sure if it will be July or slightly later, but it should be coming. They currently are still only sending invites to places not connected to any accounts.
-
Brave News will soon no longer have ads. This means we only have notification and NTP ads to be able to view and earn from.
-
As I have mentioned before, it seems they are wanting to push a lot of focus to the Offer Wall. Plenty are saying they have earned from it. Iām not big into Web3 so havenāt tried any of the partners. Iāll leave it up to you to try and give feedback from experience.

Update: June 24, 2025
BlockSurvey (waitlist signup) is no longer active.
For Canadians:
For those in Canada, Solana (self custody) invites are being prioritized. You donāt need to sign up for anything but you will need to make sure you arenāt connected to any custodial wallets. If had been linked to Uphold, you need to reset your Rewards profile so that it is in an unconnected state and make sure you choose Canada for your country. Once this is done, you just wait and they said you should see the invite appear within a few days, give or take.
For everyone:
Solana will be a default option for everyone and no longer require an invite soon. Whether this will be uplifted or go through normal channels is something they couldnāt say with any absolute certainty. The difference is uplifting means bringing it straight to the normal version of Brave whereas normal channels would be going Nightly ā Beta ā Release.
Most likely weāll see this happening in July or August, but as with all things I donāt think thereās any guarantee. Itās just the goal.
-IMPORTANT NOTE-
In the initial invites, Brave was paying to create the associated token accounts. This is not something that will continue, though they are considering different options. What this means is anyone who does get the invite and wants to receive the Solana payouts will need to have some SOL in their wallets so it can create the BAT account for you to receive the BAT tokens. They said itās a small amount, such as like $1 USD worth of SOL, give or take. You can learn a bit more about that at https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/36396222329229-Associated-Token-Accounts-ATAs-on-Solana-Receiving-BAT-on-Solana
Android vs Desktop:
Another point they clarified is that because Android has limited support for extensions, you would need to use Brave Wallet to set up for receiving your Solana payments.
In contrast, the desktop version allows you to use any wallet to receive BAT payments.

Evan123 from the Braveās support team just shared that self custody is now live in Nightly. It should be passing down to Beta and Release soon.
Iām still not sure if this means it will pass through normally, showing up around 1.83.xx or if theyāll uplift and weāll see it sooner. Iāll post an update here when I see more solid information.
In the meanwhile, anyone using Nightly should see it as a default option, such as below:
Reminder:
-
Unless things have changed, Android will require you to use Brave Wallet.
-
Desktop can use extensions for other wallets, but you will need extension or Wallet as we sign for it which runs through.
Also a Solana balance will be needed in that wallet account. Part of the process of connecting will have a note like below:
Note: Creating a BAT account on Solana requires a small amount of SOL. Make sure you have enough SOL at your address before proceeding.
So be sure to fund your wallet with a little bit of Solana first to avoid issues. This is discussed at https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/36396222329229-Associated-Token-Accounts-ATAs-on-Solana-Receiving-BAT-on-Solana

So I think this will be the last update Iāll make for this specific topic. As of today, Self Custody for Solana is a default option in Rewards. Iāll remind everyone once more:
- Android will require you to use Brave Wallet.
- Desktop can use extensions for other wallets, but you will need extension or Wallet as we sign for it which runs through.
Also a Solana balance will be needed in that wallet account. Part of the process of connecting will have a note like below:
Note: Creating a BAT account on Solana requires a small amount of SOL. Make sure you have enough SOL at your address before proceeding.
If you do not already have BAT on Solana within your Wallet, you will need at least $1 USD worth of SOL in order to begin to receive BAT.

This requires your Brave version to be 1.81.135 or later. Android may take a few days from this post before itās available due to approval processes before apps and their updates can be made available on the app store (Google Play)
