Reviewed and noted the settings at brave://settings/manageProfile
Took screenshots of the settings at brave://settings/appearance
Clicked “Reset to default” under Appearance > Customize your toolbar
Fully exited Brave, restarted my computer, and then relaunched the browser
However, after completing these steps, the Profile avatar still does not appear in the toolbar.
Please let me know what additional information would be helpful for further investigation.
I am happy to provide screenshots, Brave version details, OS information, or to test additional troubleshooting steps if needed.
I appreciate your continued support and look forward to your guidance on the next steps.

As a test, let’s see if a Brave Browser user Profile avatar will show for an additional Profile. Try:
Create and use a new Brave Browser user profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) - only ← meaning, do not have any other Brave Browser user profile tabs/windows open. When creating this new Brave Browser user profile for test purposes, do not import anything, do not allow/enable any Brave Browser “bells and whistles” such as Brave Rewards, Brave Talk, etc.
@TAKUYA1971 that is very strange – can you please share a screenshot of the way your browser toolbar appears? Additionally, can you please launch Brave, then press Command + Shift + M to open the profile manager window, then click on Manage Brave profiles? I would also like a screenshot of this screen as well.
@Mattches Here you can see a few screenshot of the way my bowser toolbar appears. Unfortunately, Command + Shift + M doesn’t work for me. However, I also can attach the screenshot of the profile manager as well. Thanks for your help.
@TAKUYA1971 is this the only profile you have at this time? If so, then the profile image will not appear – it only shows up when there are multiple profiles created.
I only have one profile, the default which was synced, and there’s no icon. If there was one, I never noticed it before.
Only thing is, @TAKUYA1971 stated they used to have one, and it disappeared after adjusting profile and sync settings. So maybe the adjustment was a removal of a profile? If so that backs up what you stated (at least to me it does).
@MasterLink correct – if you never added an additional profile then the icon won’t appear. You can test this now by creating a new profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) – once you do, you should see an icon appear for both.
@Mattches Yes, I have only one profile at this moment. Please allow me to create multiple profile and to see how the profile image might change. Thanks!
@Mattches
In older versions of Brave, I remember being able to use a personal photo as my profile icon, even with a single profile.
In the current version, it seems that this is no longer possible, even when multiple profiles exist.
Could you please confirm whether using a personal photo as a profile icon is still supported, and if so, how to enable it? Thanks,
I do not think this was ever a feature we had. There may have been a way to “hack” it and allow a custom avatar image to be selected but never something that was a built-in feature.
We have a few open issues for this, the main one here:
I’ve gone ahead and left a comment to see if we can get some more eyes on it and to se if its something we can/plan on implementing down the line.
FWIW, most Chromium-based browsers don’t have this option by default unless you are signing into/syncing an account from which the profile image is fetched from (with the exception of Vivaldi). For example, in Chrome proper, the profile image used is the one synced to your Google Account (which can be anything). Same with Opera. But if you’re not signed in/using an account, there is no way to select anything other than the default list of avatar images that come built into the browser.
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and for taking the time to clarify the background and current status of this feature.
I understand now that using a personal photo as a profile avatar has not been an officially supported feature in Brave, and that this remains an open feature request rather than something available in the current implementation.
I also appreciate you adding a comment to the existing issue to help bring additional attention to it. While I had hoped there might be a supported workaround, I understand the current limitations and will proceed using the default avatar options.
Thank you again for your clear explanation and for your continued support. It is much appreciated.
