Pressing the shield button crashes Brave

Each time I press the shield button in the omnibar Brave simply crashes

  1. Open any site
  2. Click the shield button
  3. Contemplate your desktop wallpaper as Brave crashed

I should see the Shield menu for the site.

Thank you for reaching out to us.
I’d like to try disabling a certain flag that may be (for some users) getting enabled automatically after the last update. Try the following:

  1. Launch Brave and type/navigate to brave://flags
  2. Search for a flag titled #extension-toolbar-menu
  3. Ensure that this flag is set to Disable. If not, change it so that it is and relaunch the browser when prompted.
  4. After relaunch, visit another site and attempt to open the Shields panel again.

Let me know the results.

This flag is actually quite useful. Do you know if the team will make the Shield menu compatible with it in the next versions ?

Thank you for confirming – that particular flag has been causing quite a few issues lately. Out of curiosity, did you go in and enable that flag manually, or did it enable itself after an update?

Same problem in Linux (Mint Cinnamon 19.1). Brave programming team, please find the problem and see if you can make this flag work in Brave. It’s a useful addition. I enabled this flag manually. Wasn’t enabled by an update.
