Brave Sync is the worst part of this great browser. Everyone is sick of it. Some people even quit using Brave because of Brave Sync.
Why do you insist on keeping it?
Brave Sync is the worst part of this great browser. Everyone is sick of it. Some people even quit using Brave because of Brave Sync.
Why do you insist on keeping it?
I understand the frustration. Sync has clearly been a pain point for many users, and improving its reliability should be a priority.
That said, I don’t think replacing it with an account-based system is the right direction. One of Brave’s biggest strengths is that it doesn’t require users to trust a centralized account infrastructure.
Instead, why not complement the current Sync Chain with additional local-first options?
Peer-to-peer local network sync: Devices on the same trusted network could discover each other (e.g., via mDNS) and synchronize encrypted data directly, without relying on Brave servers.
Encrypted local backup/restore: Allow users to export and import an encrypted backup bundle containing bookmarks, passwords, settings, and other synced data. This would provide a reliable migration and backup solution while keeping users in full control of their own data.
These features wouldn’t replace Sync Chain—they would complement it, giving users more reliable synchronization options without compromising Brave’s privacy-first philosophy.
Privacy and usability don’t have to be opposing goals. Thoughtful engineering can improve both.

Hello,
This feature is currently being worked on. I’m not exactly sure of the ETA of the release, but Brave Sync v3 is coming soon.
