@Alexey I see this went from P2 to P3 earlier this year. Is this something most likely not to be acted on or what is the overall status/thoughts on it? Seems to be open Github from 2020.
I mean, I see your comment from last month on the Github that there’s been no progress. Guess just is the question of whether anyone should have expectations on any movement or whether this is just very low priority?
@JeffNoVA,
Yes definitely feel the annoyance here and as @Alexey stated it’s certainly something we want to implement as even our own team members want the feature. Just a matter of prioritization and man power.
Thank you for pinging about it though, I went ahead and added your request here as a +1 to the github issue, hopefully will get some more eyes on it.
Thank you @Mattches that’s all that I can ask for. Totally tracking re: # of eyes on and available. To be fair ZERO Chromium builds have this ability, only Firefox does that I’m aware of.
Hey there!, I’ve been a happy Brave user for about a year now and love what the browser offers. However, I’ve run into a challenge with managing devices in the Sync chain. After doing some research, I found this forum and noticed that the ability to rename devices has been a popular request since 2020. It seems the Brave team acknowledged the request, but five years later, the feature still hasn’t been implemented.
This limitation becomes tricky when you have multiple devices connected. Since Brave only allows up to 10 devices in a Sync chain and doesn’t let you rename them, it can be hard to figure out which is which—especially when many have the same name. For example, I have 8 devices listed as “iPhone,” but only 3 are in active use. The rest are older, and the dates and times provided aren’t enough to identify them.
I’m curious if the Brave team has decided against implementing this feature or if it’s still on the roadmap. Alternatively, has anyone here found a clever way to manage devices in the Sync chain? I’d love to hear your thoughts or updates on this.
Thanks for reading, and I hope we can find a solution or get an update from the Brave team!
@triple.eight.six I tracked this down a bit since 2023, and it seems it’s tied to the chromium core itself – IOW, Brave doesn’t have the ability to do this, they (and all other chromium offshoots) have to wait for it to happen on the main Chromium and then they can ‘adopt’ it. I was unhappy until I realized that all of these are chrome reskins and when it’s something that the flagship doesn’t want, they’re powerless. Zen and Firefox allow renaming, if you can live w/o H.264 over there.
