Using a fresh install of the latest version of Brave (1.89.145) on Windows 11 Home, at Settings > “Get started”, there is an option to “Pin to taskbar - Click Pin and confirm in the following Windows notification”. Clicking the “Pin” button to the right of that label, I expected to see a Windows confirmation dialog, after which the “Pin” button would be enabled and the Brave icon would be located in the Windows taskbar.
However, when I click the “Pin” button, nothing happens. Being logged in under a Windows admin account, makes no difference. And there were no difficulties in changing any of the other options in the Settings area – just this one.
Does anyone know why that button is apparently misbehaving?
Yes, if the user manually pins Brave to the taskbar, then the button in Settings does not need to be used – in fact, cannot be used, because it is disabled (and is labeled “Brave is already penned”, as shown in your screenshot). However, I’m wondering about the other way of pinning Brave to the taskbar, namely, using the button in Settings – which isn’t working.
I would first, select the Brave Lion icon in the Taskbar and pin that. Visit some webpage. Then check/verify the “Get started” setting. Then close the website and un-pin the Brave Lion icon from the Taskbar. And then test the issue - try the “Get started” setting.
A roundabout way to bring the effort to the browser’s / but probably more important: the Windows OS’s … attention.
I will ask some of our Windows folks about why that might not be working. It’s not particularly concerning given that the browser can still be pinned to the task bar, but yes that button should be working.
