Out of memory help

Description of the issue: When I try to open a page in a website for Advanced search (mobile.de) I get out of memory error with brave. I tried to delete cache/cookies & everything about the site - it didn’t help. I tried to open the site and click around the pages in it - it didn’t help, still get the error. Tried to deactivate the shield - still didn’t help.
I don’t get this type of errors if I try to open the site with MS Edge. So the problem must be with Brave. Any other ideas what may cause this?

Operating System and Brave Version: Windows 11 Pro ; Brave 1.84.132

“Aw Snap” ← Brave Browser has trouble loading a webpage.

Search online, criteria:

  • “Windows OS out of memory”
  • “Windows OS disk space”

Example search result: ‘https://www.easeus.com/computer-instruction/your-computer-is-low-on-memory.html

Examine both:

  • Brave Browser Task Manager
  • Windows OS Task Manager

Monitor activity by using Developer Tools > Network window:

How to Use Developer Tools

Opening the Developer Tools window

MacOS users, key combination: Option + Command + "i" ("eye", no quotes)

Windows OS / Linux OS users, key combination:

Control + Shift + "i" ("eye", no quotes) gets the Developer Tools > Network tab window

Control + Shift + "j" ("jay", no quotes) gets the Developer Tools > Console tab window

Or, use the F12 key ← also works for MacOS users.

On the first occasion of using Developer Tools, the Developer Tools “window” is usually a part of (contained within) its associated Brave Browser window . . . but you can make the Developer Tools window, a standalone window (though keeping its association with the Brave Browser window). I recommend that you do so:

In the upper right-hand corner of the Developer Tools window, there is an “Organizer” 3-vertical-dots button - click on that. The result should be a pop-up:

Notice the tiny blue icon that is first (left to right) among 4 that are to the right of “Dock side”. Click on that icon. The Developer Tools window will become a standalone window.

@Tosh8 Does this happen every time or just occasionally/randomly? The reason I’m asking is I’ve experienced the same issue for some pages like Reddit on occasion. It can and will happen on Firefox, Edge, Chrome, Brave, and I’m sure others.

There are a number of things that can happen to cause it and there are no easy answers. Sometimes it’s just bad cache, others it’s an issue with a script that’s trying to load, a site server error, some problem with an extension, or many other potential . I know when I just went to the site on Brave I didn’t have the problem.

I appreciate that you tried checking things like disabling Shields and clearing some cache/cookies. If it’s a more frequent or consistent issue that is easily replicated, then I guess you could try:

  • Opening in a private window to see if it works = This helps test cookies and extensions as a problem

  • Creating a second browser profile. This is the hamburger (three line) menu → More Tools → Add new profile. = This tests browser settings, but also a more significant test for extensions.

  • Changing DNS provider in Settings → Privacy and security → Security. Turn on Use Secure DNS if it’s not on and test. You could also try toggling between Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), NextDNS, and Google (Public DNS) to see if performance increases.
