Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.
Description of the issue:
When selecting text on a webpage and then using the “right-click” popup menu choice of “search web”, Brave uses Google search even though I have my default search engine set to Brave.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Open a web page on Brave app
Select some text so that the right-click menu appears.
Choose “search web”.
A new tab to Google.com will appear with your search.
Expected result:
Since my default browser is set to Brave Search, I expect it to use Brave, not Google, to do the search.
Brave Version( check About Brave):
ios app v1.82(171)
Mobile Device details
Ipad pro M4 running ios 26.0
Additional Information:
I am trying to stop using Google. That’s the entire reason I am using Brave. I don’t want this to use Google search for anything.
OK, thanks for letting me know. This is a very bizarre thing iOS is doing. I hope you can fix it soonish.
Also - aren’t I supposed to report issues to this Community Forum? Am I supposed to be searching through issues in GitHub in addition to here before posting? Yikes, I hope not.
@CynthiaS You can report issues in either location, but searching for if your issue exists in either place may be tricky depending on how other users may have reported it in the past so no worries!
@CynthiaS Just to update, I opened a new issue for this: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/49623 and opened a fix for this as well which replaces “Search Web” with “Search with Brave”. As a workaround until this feature ships, you can continue scrolling to the end of the same context menu list where “Search with Brave” should be there
