No ads after Brave Wallet restoration

Briefly describe your issue: After reinstalling Brave on Android and restoring my wallet via seed phrase, Brave Rewards no longer shows ads and “Last unidle time” in brave://rewards-internals/ is always “never”, even after resets and reinstalls. I also cannot reconnect Brave Rewards to my Solana wallet (“Something went wrong”), and I’m wondering if this issue is preventing ads from being displayed, even though a wallet should not be required just to receive ads.

I am experiencing an issue with Brave Rewards on Android after reinstalling the Brave browser.

I was using Brave Rewards on both Windows and Android. Recently, BAT rewards from ads were successfully credited to my Solana account in the Brave Wallet.

A few days ago, I encountered a problem with the Brave app on Android and had to reinstall it. After reinstalling, I restored my Brave Wallet on Android using the seed phrase. The wallet was restored correctly and I can see both my SOL and BAT balances.

However, I am unable to connect Brave Rewards to this wallet. When I try, I receive an error message saying: “Something went wrong”.

I initially thought this might be related to a device limit connected to one Solana account (although I only use Brave on Windows and previously on Android, so this would be just the third device). I decided to try again later and continued using the browser normally.

At first, I received one notification ad for Brave VPN, which made it seem like ads were working. However, this was the only ad I received. Since then:

  • I do not receive any notification ads

  • I do not see sponsored images on the New Tab page

I checked brave://rewards-internals/ and in the Ad Diagnostics section I noticed that “Last unidle time” is shown as “never”.
On my Windows device, this field shows a specific date and time of last activity. I see ads regularly.

Could this be the reason why ads are not being displayed on Android? If so, how can I fix this?

I have already tried the following without success:

  • Resetting Brave Rewards multiple times

  • Clearing the app cache

  • Reinstalling the Brave browser

Each time, “Last unidle time” still shows as “never”.

Is this issue related to the fact that I cannot connect my Solana account to Brave Rewards? As far as I remember, connecting a wallet was not required for ads to be displayed — only for receiving payouts.

I would appreciate your help in diagnosing and resolving this issue.

I am aware that the device limit may prevent reconnecting the same Solana account, but I am concerned that I am not receiving any ad notifications at all, even though notifications are enabled on Android/browser. I will probably have to create a new Solana account and use that, but first the issue of missing notifications needs to be resolved. I changed the number of allowed ads per hour and that did not help either. The only ad I have received was for Brave VPN. The region is not the issue, because on Windows I do receive ad notifications.

Not receiving ads or you’re not noticing them? What does it say for your ad count when you check your Rewards panel?

That doesn’t mean much. Advertisers choose which OS and region they want their ads to appear. In addition, they choose the maximum amount of times a person can see ads from a campaign and other such info. So it’s possible there are ads that are meant to appear on Windows but not on Android.

Correct. But as you said, there’s no earnings for this at all. Even if you connect to a wallet later, you will receive no payment for ads viewed prior to connecting.

As 289wk mentioned, this probably will be Evan123 who would need to help if this matters, as I’m not entirely sure. A lot of people at Brave have been on PTO for the holidays. I’m not entirely sure about Evan’s scheduling but am guessing he’ll be catching up on things and trying to help here in this week.

The counter shows 2 ads, and indeed I received 2 notifications. Both ads are related to Brave VPN. I received one shortly after resetting Brave Rewards, and the other one yesterday. I can see them in brave://ads-internals/.

I am having similar problem. After reinstalling brave on new OS I am not getting any new tab ads but I’m getting notification ads.

I think that in my case, the key issue is the lack of activity detection (Last unidle time: never). @Evan123, please help.
