Night Mode Was Working Fine on Android on CNN.com Until This Week.
As of this week your night mode is not functioning correctly on CNN.com’s home page. When one clicks on internal pages it works fine, but on the home page a whole bunch of black text is being displayed on a black background making it impossible to read.
This was not an issue until this week. It started acting up this week.
I prefer to read white text on a black background as it’s helpful for my eyes and doesn’t strain them.
Please fix whatever you “updated” that caused this issue.
Just CNN’s home page (not its internal pages) and it started some time ago. It’s possible that it began with your most recent update. Initially when I installed your software it was not doing this. You are correct, when the light theme is selected, this issue goes away for CNN’s home page, but I have two large flashing white and bright bars at the top and bottom which bother my eyes on my Android phone. This makes no sense and this issue only occurs on CNN’s home page, not its internal pages.
I’ve tried the dark mode on other browsers, and they all work fine with CNN’s home page without any issues. Your browser is the only one that has this technical glitch.
Can you kindly look into why this occurred with one of your recent updates and kindly fix it. I love your browser because it’s the only one with which I can bypass video ads. But I also love reading white text against a black background. It’s easier on my eyes.
I’m having the exact same issue as of I think two updates ago and I browse numerous different websites daily and the CNN homepage is the only webpage anywhere where I am seeing this problem.
As a temporary workaround I now open the Samsung Internet app if I want to view CNN where night mode / dark theme still work with the website. Not a great solution of course.
On my end, I see this particular issue on all Chromium based browsers when “night mode”/“Apply dark mode to all pages” is enabled. In addition to Brave, I see it in: MS Edge [left], Chrome [right]:
It looks like this is an upstream issue with the “night mode”/“dark web pages” feature that the Chromium engine is using and is not specific to Brave. I will inform the team but this will more than likely need to wait for an upstream fix. Additionally, it is worth noting that the “night mode” feature in all of these browsers is labeled as “experimental” and/or comes with a warning that some web pages may not display correctly.
