Please be assured that this is a temporary state. There is an active, high-priority effort underway to bring back tab scrolling in a more reliable and polished form.
Thanks for sharing JimB1.
Did want to copy/paste the whole reply from the Chromium dev though, so I’ll do that below:
Hi everyone, thanks for following up and sharing your feedback!
We understand the frustration caused by the removal of tab scrolling, especially for those who rely on it for managing many tabs.
To clarify the technical context: the previous implementation was an experiment built on legacy infrastructure that was no longer sustainable. To build a robust, high-quality version of tab scrolling that can eventually be stabilized for all users, we had to retire the existing code. Unfortunately, maintaining that legacy path while simultaneously developing the new architecture was not technically feasible due to mounting code conflicts and instability.
Please be assured that this is a temporary state. There is an active, high-priority effort underway to bring back tab scrolling in a more reliable and polished form. While we know there isn’t a perfect substitute in the interim, we wanted to be transparent about the plan and the technical necessity of this change.
We appreciate your patience and your passion for this feature—it helps us ensure we’re building the best possible experience for the future and that we are prioritizing the right efforts.
Apologies again for the interruption to your workflow.
Sir, writing paragraphs in caps and calling people kids is not going to help anyone.
No one forced any updates, it’s your PC and you can use any version of brave that exists. Do what other users did, if you need this function, revert to a previous version and wait for further updates, this is a free software and no one is gonna be spurred to work harder or faster by “a have a jerb to do!!1”
You know what bro, I’m likely older than you and have a wall of experience going far beyond you.
I’m well aware of tab hoarders such as yourself and quite frankly, I sit in the datacenters laughing as you’ll be the first to make THESE exact complaints when something comes up.
“Woe is me, I can’t load my hundreds of tabs at once!” jfc get over it, back in my day you had no tabs, one window and that’s it.
If your “job” requires that many tabs, then lol is all I can quite frankly say. Make believe job maybe or one that has no concept or organization or what is the next excuse gonna be, multiple tools open at once? You know, I managed multiple companies and even their busiest call center didn’t need more than 15 tabs tops, and those agents were doing dual chat sessions at once…on Chromium too. ![]()
I have zero respect for fools who foam at the mouth over a scrollable tab bar, but are so effing entitled they have to start and behave like this:
Let me give you a hint as someone far older than you clearly who knows a thing or two about I.T., you know you can actually disable Brave’s auto updater, right? Guess I won’t tell you how, since you’re a know it all who has a job that has loads of tabs…hahaha. Again, they would be happy to help add it back anyway most likely, but this entitlement that you are owed this feature? Pound sand little child.
(Let’s be real, if a job truly requires so many tabs that you have to scroll the tab bar, that’s how accidents happen, hint hint, looking at you Verizon…) The moral of this is as I said above, be patient, there are a lot of things the team have to work on every day. I also stated there are much more high priority issues in general that do need fixing, and even with that, they are making this high priority, and yet still the attitude you called upon yourself. I’m nice as a saint and go above and beyond for a lot of user to help them out and try and replicate issues to raise flags. But even when I can replicate something like I did here, discovering it was Chromium that changed (along with the discovery made here as well), you turn to still wishing to take a slash at Brave devs for simply including the change in the fork.
Do you even have an ounce of how much goes into a Chromium fork? I honestly wouldn’t expect most to, it’s why I keep saying patience. But again, the behavior you pushed is not what I expect from a rational person. I’m not a Brave staff, and I’m not afraid to call it out. (And from what I see lately, neither are they, lol).
I need tab scrolling. Please, please please. This is hell.
I reverted to 1.85 and broke the auto update. Not the solution I want, but I can’t work with ~50 tabs all crammed into the top tab bar
Add to /etc/hosts
“127.0.0.1 updates.bravesoftware.com
127.0.0.1 updates-cdn.bravesoftware.com”
Now I have to do this to multiple devices across my organization.
Hi all, I’ve re-opened this thread for the time being. We’ve introduced our own version of tab scrolling on Beta 1.89.x ideally or Nightly (currently 1.90.x), which will make it’s way to Release.
Can I ask that each of you here try out our fix for this in either Nightly or Beta and make sure that it’s working as expected?
Thank you in advance. Feel free to provide feedback directly in this thread here.
Just as a reminder this is the GH issue for tracking https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/52045.
Thank you

From what i see, the tabs still don’t have minimum size, right? As per this issue. Sadly, without that implemented, it’s still very hard to use scrollable tabs, as they are so tiny you can only see the icon in the tab and the first letter or two(if that).
The implemented features seem to be working, like in the videos LaurenWags posted, but without that one feature, it’s still very awkward to use.
That isn’t to diminish the achievement, we wen’t from the feature literally not existing at all, to needing just one or two tweaks to return to working condition, im sure that in a month or so, i’ll finally be able to update my browser, thanks for the hard work.
does it not make sense to put a officially Download link on the brave site which people can still dl the old versions? to workaround it officially? i think most users are afraid to use dl links from other websites. 1.85 seems to work still.
Thanks for the work on tab scrolling. I’ve just downloaded Beta 1.90.96 and scrolling is working fine for me AND pinned tabs no longer scroll - Excellent!
I note that there is an outstanding request for tab sizing, but this has not impacted me yet - I make heavy use of tab groups.
Quick update for everyone here: tab scrolling has been re-enabled in today’s 1.90.121 release. If you previously had the flag turned on, you’ll need to re-enable it directly under brave://settings/appearance → Tabs → Use scrollable tab strip. You can also set your preferred tab size with the new Minimum tab width option in the same section. Appreciate the patience while we worked through this.
Awesome!
Thank you!
