Google and StartPage handle AND, OR, NOT (-), and EXACTLY (""). These are a sine qua non for efficient searching, but I can find no indication that Brave does.
If that means you will enable Boolean Search, then YES, DO IT.
If I cannot search for exact strings e.g. âexact stringsâ or exclude sites e.g. fakebook, abc, nbc, msnbc, fox, nytimes, et al then I may as well let google spy on me.
Is there any movement on this? So far Brave Search is the best non-tracking search engine Iâve found, but the fact that I canât precisely control my search results is a huge downside, and keeps me from recommending it to others. Would love to hear this will be a feature soon!
Over a year since we heard from @Support @GreenBananaPorridge so I guess holding your breath is NOT a good idea. 
I seriously cannot believe users arenât screaming for this functionality. I keep searching for âBrave search modifiersâ (~once per month) and canât find anything⌠Surely Iâm simply overlooking it.? There are ZERO search modifiers in Brave? I thought it was built on Chromium and therefore would have the same search modifiers as Chrome.? I guess notâŚ

WAY back in the day, Google became my primary search engine precisely because of the presence of boolean search operators. It was the only way to eliminate the cruft that otherwise litters search results, making it impossible to find what youâre looking for.,
Itâs been more than a decade and half since that feature was present in Chrome. The quotation-marks operator for ârequiredâ helps a bit, but not enough.
I presume that the feature is just inordinately difficult to implement, or to maintain.
Itâs possible that liability issues are involved.
In any case, that feature is still needed for searches today, even with the help of AI .
The options I see:
- Give AI the tools apply logical operators to filter search results.
- Bring back those operators
- If necessary, create a special page for for search-operators and add a liability-clause!
@ericMB not sure what you, @UMMD, and everyone else here is missing. They have the search operators to do exactly what people want. https://search.brave.com/help/operators
I know back in 2022/2023 it was still being worked on. It should work fine now overall. If it applies search operators, it will show the message disclaiming itâs being used as you can see in the screenshot below. And if there isnât enough criteria when it uses them, then it also will show a message explaining that.
