Leo V2 - my experience: impressive web search, large context, and a few bugs worth fixing

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using the Brave Nightly browser for a while now, and since this version introduces the new Leo V2, I wanted to share my thoughts.

Perhaps some of you are testing it too and have your own observations. Let me know in the comments. :slightly_smiling_face:

What genuinely impressed me:

  • I’m incredibly impressed with how well Leo V2 handles web searches. Even with very complex questions, it’s able to provide relevant sources and give a good answer, while competing solutions fail at this. It’s absolutely amazing how much has changed between Leo V1 and V2. I remember that just a month or two ago, I was testing the standard version of Leo, and the web search barely worked, which was a source of frustration for me. But the way it works now is simply amazing.
  • I’m also very impressed by Leo V2’s large context window. I’ve fed Leo many long, complex sources, and it’s able to process them all, providing good, precise answers. I’ve run several comparative tests against competing solutions, and Leo V2 clearly comes out on top- it’s able to identify details, nuances, and relationships that other solutions miss. Now, I essentially analyze all web pages and documents exclusively in Leo V2.

A few more things worth mentioning:

  • It follows instructions really well
  • It’s fast and smooth
  • Network errors and processing issues have basically disappeared (they were more frequent a few weeks ago, now almost gone)

Bugs I’ve noticed:

That said, there are a few things that need fixing:

  1. Shortcuts bug - when you type `/` and select a shortcut, any images or files attached get wiped. You can’t use a shortcut and attach a file at the same time, which is pretty frustrating - especially if you have a shortcut set up for analyzing specific files or pages.
  2. Email address bug - when an `@` symbol appears in the text (as part of an email address), everything after it gets deleted
  3. Chat history disappearing - sometimes when I’m in a conversation, switch to a new one, and then try to go back, the previous chat is just gone from the list. No idea why.
  4. Copy not working - copying a response from Leo often doesn’t work. I hit copy, switch to another window, paste - nothing. It only starts working properly after refreshing the Leo conversation.

Final thoughts:

  • Leo v2 is truly impressive- both in terms of web search, handling of large contexts, and the quality of its responses. The combination of these three elements is something I haven’t seen done this well anywhere else.
  • One request to the Brave team: please don’t “downgrade” Leo V2 to mediocrity as part of internal optimizations. Unfortunately, many companies do just that. Please don’t do this to Leo- don’t limit web search capabilities, don’t shrink the context window, and don’t lower the quality of responses- because what you’ve created in Leo V2 is absolutely brilliant and top-notch.

Leo V2 is genuinely great work — congratulations to the team. :flexed_biceps: :flexed_biceps: :flexed_biceps:
