I’ve noticed that the default model for Leo AI is now set to automatic. Would this ever use the third party hosted AI model by Claude? or would it only use Brave hosted models in automatic mode?
Really good question, luckily we no longer use Anthropic’s API for Claude. Right now every model in Leo is hosted on our infra so even when Automatic routes to Claude Haiku/Sonnet, it’s sent to our privacy-preserving environment instead of going to Anthropic

Note: Updated June 30, 2025 - Brave Leo now hosts all AI models, including Claude models, through our own secure infrastructure. Previously, some models were served through external providers, but we have updated our hosting arrangement to ensure all user interactions remain within Brave’s privacy-preserving environment.
