Description of the issue: Clicking How can this issue be reproduced?
Install Brave on Windows. Set up two profiles
Pin shortcuts to the taskbar. One for each profile.
Expected result: Clicking taskbar shortcut A (which should show the logo for Profile A) opens profile A. Vice Versa for Profile B.
Actual result: When brave is fully closed, Shortcut B shows a profile picture, Shortcut A does NOT (see attached photo). Clicking Shortcut B always opens a window in profile B. Clicking Shortcut A will either:
If Brave is closed and the “Show on Startup” checkbox in the Manage Profiles window is unchecked: a window for the most recently used profile opens.
If Brave is closed and the “Show on Startup” checkbox in the Manage Profiles window is checked: the profile chooser opens
If only Profile B is open: A new window in Profile B opens.
Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.91.180
Additional Information: I have tried fixing this issue by:
Reinstalling Brave
Deleting and recreating the profiles
Removing Shortcut A, opening Profile A, and repinning it
Reading many of the other posts on this board with similar issues and trying their troubleshooting steps (I did note, however, that many of those issues were with the second profile and not the default.)
EDIT: Nevermind, I spoke too soon. In regards to the icon not being changed, after closing allof my Brave windows, the “default” profile shortcut went back to the normal Brave icon (like the 2nd photo below). Maybe someone can provide some additional input as to other steps to try?
Thanks for that. Using the Github issue and the other community board post I was able to come up with a workaround. Mind you, this is still a workaround and I hope the dev team is able to fix this issue on native installs so future users don’t have to do this. Here’s what I did:
Right click on the shortcut that doesn’t work. Right click on Brave, right click on properties. A menu pops up(first image below). Add the flag --profile-directory="Default" using the guide located here to figure out what profile directory name you wish to use. (Be careful that you don’t use your computer’s fancy curly braces, as that will cause Brave to autocreate new profiles called "Default" instead of Default. Just copy and paste the flag from above.) That fixes the shortcut but the icon will still be blank, like the second image below. To fix that, go back to the shortcut properties menu, and click Change Icon, passing the following path: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\[desired profile path]\Google Profile.ico. You’ll get the proper icon then, as shown in the 3rd photo below.
