Hi I keep running into an issue for iOS devices(latest ipad Pro and iPhone 16PM) where I have auto shred on when app closes. The issue is I turn off off the feature for certain sites but the problem is only certain sites are keeping me logged while others are always logging me off when I close app.
twitter (X) I stay logged in when app closes
reddit signs me out when I close app
has anyone run into this situations where some sites work while others don’t?
Brave Version( 1.78.1 (104)):
Mobile Device details ipad m2 pro and ip 16 pro max
Yes i can confirm that the sites that i don’t want to be shred, i turn off the shred option.
Lets use Twitter(X) as one of the two examples
I can swipe up and close app and when i open Brave, i am back to my Twitter(X) page still logged in
A random site that has auto shred turned on, i swipe up and close app and when i go back to browser, it takes me back to my Brave homepage( that’s how i know shred is working)
Yet when i do another site to not be shredded aka Instagram. I turn off auto shred, sign in with my info on site, then swipe up to close and go back to browser, it takes my back to instagram page signed out wanting me to sign in again. Same thing happens with reddit.
On close and re-open, I’m still logged in to ChatGPT, but Youtube and Google lose their settings and I’m logged out.
However, I noticed this doesn’t happen when the global shred is set to “Site Tabs Closed”, the exceptions in this case work also for Youtube and Google.
Also this “Site Tabs Closed”, doesn’t seem to take effect immediately, it does seem to take a while.
@Untrimmed2743@bc7z Are the issues only happening with the sites you’ve mentioned so far?
I’m wondering if related sites might be part of the problem. For example, Google shares cookies across all its services. So if cookies are being cleared for something like Gmail, it could also log you out of YouTube since they share cookie data. That kind of cross-site behavior could cause conflicts.
I haven’t used Instagram much, but I believe it shares cookies with Meta/Facebook in a similar way. If that’s true, it might be acting like Google in this situation.
Reddit used to have ties with Google cookies, which caused some issues in the past. I’m not sure if there’s still any connection, so that could be an outlier. Of course, this also might matter depending on how you login, such as if you do Continue with Apple or Continue with Google.
On the other hand, services like Twitter or ChatGPT seem to operate more independently. They’re not tied into a network of related sites, which might explain why they stay logged in more consistently.
I could be completely off base, but I thought it was worth mentioning for testing and discussion.
Yes it is only happening so far with the sites i have mentioned.
Thing is what’s weird is i don’t know if the desktop browser function is diff from the ios browser function cuz i don’t have any issues turning off desktop “Forget me when i close sit” for sites like reddit or instagram. I stay logged in on desktop but have issues with IOS where i get signed out everytime.
