Impossible to change the filters on the brave://settings/shields/filters page

Description of the issue: I cannot modify the list labelled “Create Custom Filters”

Exact URL of the website in question: brave://settings/shields/filters

Screenshot of the ad as it appears in Brave: This doesn’t relate to a single ad, brave is broken

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)yes

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off? Not applicable

Does the ad appear when using a Private window as well? (yes/no) Not applicable

What OS are you using when you see the ad? Not applicable

Brave version (check About Brave): v1.81.131

It is impossible to modify or create new lists in the “Create Custom Filters” list on this page, making it impossible to “Create Custom Filters” as the list mockingly claims.

This makes Brave user-hostile and appears to be intentional. Do we now have to buy access to the list, or is this because brave now allows others to buy themselves off the list and don’t want them to be added back in. Either way it seems like enough of a step backwards that I’m seriously considering a campaign to sound the alarm bells about Brave’s new policy in as many places as possible.

Is it time to stop using brave and protest this browser publicly. This is a betrayal of your users and makes brave’s claims about ad blocking moot and fraudulent.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to: ‘brave://version’ and scroll down a little, to find, and then report here, both:

  • Executable Path:
  • Profile Path:

If using Windows OS, then:

When reporting your Profile Path, post only the path - beginning with ‘AppData’ and the characters to the right (thus not posting your OS user account name); for example:

  • ‘\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default’

Possibly, the file and folder permissions need to be fixed - especially for the ‘Local State’ file, located at:

  • ‘\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Local State’

If using MacOS, then ‘Default’ folder and ‘Local State’ file locations:

  • ‘/Users/username/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default’
  • ‘/Users/username/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Local State’
