In macOS Brave, importing a Chrome profile that includes the Dashlane extension successfully brings in the working Dashlane extension but not corresponding Autofill setting, “Dashlane – Password Manager is controlling this setting” in Brave Settings / Aufofill and passwords / Passwords / Settings.
Instead, Dashlane works but Brave also offers to save passwords.
Removing the Dashlane extension and re-adding it creates the correct Brave setting, which prevents Brave from offering to save passwords, etc.
This issue probably occurs with other password manager extensions imported from Chrome, and perhaps in Brave for Windows and Linux.
I have an IT business and am gradually replacing Chrome with Brave on my clients’ Macs. Many also have Dashlane. I’ve encountered this issue 3 times in the last 10 days on different Macs.
Now I know to not be complacent after importing a Chrome profile containing Dashlane, which works right away. Instead, I have to remove the working Dashlane extension and add it right back. Otherwise, clients call me complaining that Brave is asking to store passwords even though they use Dashlane.
Maybe this is Chromium’s bug instead of Brave’s.
