I have noticed that some colors (images, icons etc) look different in Dark Mode when viewed on tablet compared to phone, even though both devices are updated to the latest version Brave 1.86.146, Chromium 144.0.7559.110.
For example, an image with navy blue background is displayed correctly on my amoled phone, but it appears as white on my IPS tablet!
This particular experimental feature is inherited from the Chromium engine and, as it’s name suggests, does not always work as expected. Unfortunately there is not a ton we can do about this at this time, although I believe we are working on our own version of this theming.
Just to make sure, can you confirm that the images show normally if you’re using the light/dark theme on the tablet (not the “experiment dark mode” theme)?
@b2025b The big thing here is to reinforce what Mattches already told you, this is Chromium code and not Brave. So if you want to know why Chromium is making the choices they are, you would do better asking them. People from Brave have no control over it.
Experimental or not, I find it puzzling that dark colors look different on the tablet compared to the phone or even desktop Chrome (same Chromium version).
Yeah, I don’t know how the flag is treating things. It might be relying on the device somehow. I don’t know if particular settings with the operating system might be different? If it’s some appearance change within the browser? Or if maybe it’s just randomly choosing from one of the flag choices that we had before.
The latter may actually make a little bit more sense because the behavior is kind of like some of the different inversions that people had before. But it would be kind of stupid if it is just randomizing to each person which of the auto dark mode it uses.
Brave is fairly optimized for mobiles and this inverted colors thing is just one of the differences (for example, the status bar in incognito mode is colored is purple as if in immersive mode; no such thing on tablet)
Can someone using Brave on tablet please check if the colors are inverted like in the pics I posted above? any brand or android version. TIA
edit:
same problem in Chrome (desktop). So, looks like only “desktop” devices are affected.
