I want Brave to function on my new PC the way it functions on my old PC

Got a new PC

Both PCs have exactly the same OS: MX-Linux 23.6 (Debian based)

I want Brave under the new PC to function exactly the same way as Brave on my old PC i.e. on both PCs same bookmarks, passwords, Brave installed extensions

To do this, do I only have to copy my old PC directory .config/BraveSoftware over to the new PC ?? If more is needed , what else ?

  • Disable Brave Sync across the board
  • Set Old PC’s default browser to any browser other than Brave Browser
  • Disable and Remove all extensions that you added
  • Use Bookmarks Manager to export bookmarks (result is an .html file)
  • Use Brave’s Password Manager to export passwords (result is a .csv file)

Make a backup copy of the BraveSoftware folder at: /home/[username]/.config/BraveSoftware/ - placing the backup copy on a USB drive.

How do I delete my data in Brave?

Drag-copy the old BraveSoftware folder, from the USB drive, to the new PC /home/[username]/.config/ folder.

Install Brave Browser on the new PC

Run Brave Browser. DO NOT YET import bookmarks.

Take a look at the Bookmarks Manager, to see if the bookmarks are intact. If not, import old bookmarks.

Visit a very simple website: ‘https://test.nextdns.io/

If things seem OK, then add extensions - testing their usefulness, and test each, in succession.

Import passwords.

If you are going to continue using the old PC, then add extensions - testing their usefulness, and test each, in succession.
