Expected result: high usage

Reproduces how often: all the time.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): Brave 1.85.111

Additional Information:

876.2Mb isn’t the largest amount of usage I’ve seen. noticed there is (21) What other tabs and extensions open? How much memory do you have?

Every extension needs a process, every tab and window needs a process. Memory usage will add up.

I have only 4 extensions and one window, and I see this:

Keep in mind, this is normal. RAM exists to be used, and Chromium will let go of memory when other apps do require it. It uses it so things can load faster without needing to load resources from disk or the net every time. Also, the cache stored also gets loaded into memory and that’s why pages load faster when you visit them again.

And to be honest, I have 9 processes, and you have 21. You’re using less than me right now if you count the amount of processes we have. Just remember, unlike the older days when apps didn’t play nice, they do now, and if not, the OS makes sure they do.

If however you’d like to take a peek since Windows Task Manager can’t tell you what each process is, Brave and every Chromium based browser can and happily will.

First, right click on a blank space in the title bar area, and go to Task Manager there within Brave (or Edge, Opera, Chrome, etc):

Then in that Chromium based Task Manager window, click on All Tasks so you can see all the nitty gritty details:

From here, it’ll show you which process is what ID, how much memory that process is taking, CPU and network (like Task Manager) but this time you’ll see what the process actually is.

(If it appears as if it’s one process short, that’s normal, the main process itself, which usually is around 1.8MB, doesn’t show up here, but everything it spawned will.)
