Help switching tabs on new update

Description of the issue: Since the most recent update to Brave on my tablet, I can no longer swipe left or right on the address bar to go left or right 1 tab. As soon as I start the swiping motion it acts as though I just regular tapped on the bar instead. This was a feature I used every single day, hundreds of times a day. I keep my tabs in one continuous row, mimicking a desktop layout instead of the other option which separates each tab group.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3. Try to swipe left or right across the address bar instead of tapping

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!): It just behaves like you tapped the address bar instead of switching to the adjacent left or right tab.

Expected result: It should have switched left or right 1 tab.

Reproduces how often: Every time.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

Android 14; Build/UP1A.231005.007

Brave 1.88.133, Chromium 146.0.7680.119

Additional Information: I really hope this is a bug and not a removed feature. This was so incredibly useful on tablets when going between tabs.

Same for me, that was great feature :slightly_frowning_face:

Agree! Rather than removing it, just keep an option to activate it in settings (and set it to inactive by default).

That’s a massive drop in quality of life :face_without_mouth:

Awful update, I’ll have to switch browsers.

I don’t think we removed this functionality intentionally on our end. Likely a Chromium change. Can anyone here encountering this issue please confirm what type of tablet and Android version you’re using when you see this?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 lite is the tablet and I’m on Android 14. I wish you luck in making this feature available in future, it’s extremely helpful!

Looks like this was in fact a regression in Chromium as the issue is reproducible in Chrome as well. I suspect this will get fixed upstream with the next Chromium update.

I really hope so. I’m a little unfamiliar with how Cromium works. Does that mean it’s a bug outside of brave itself? If it doesn’t get fixed, do you know if it would be possible for it to be added as a feature to Brave itself? Thanks for the help.

I fully expect this issue to get resolved by the Chromium team as many other users are likely to report that this feature is broken.

Chromium is just the engine that Brave – among many other browsers – are built on top of. So if something breaks when the engine gets updated, it will probably occur in those other browsers as well.

It’s working again! Whether it was the team at Brave or a Chromium update that fixed it, I’m just glad it’s back. Just posting this so anyone following the thread will know to update their browser. Thanks.
