Hi, I am currently seeing the GPU process “…rack-uuid=3190708988185955192,” when typing “nvidia-smi,” in the terminal. After closing Brave Browser said process disappears. If someone could look into whether or not this is intended that would be much appreciated. Thank you.

OS: Linux Mint

GPU: NVIDIA

Probably expected behavior, for a Brave GPU-accelerated process. Perplexity.ai:

  • Brave uses Chromium’s GPU sandboxed process to accelerate rendering, video decode, and compositing, and that process shows up as a CUDA/OpenGL client in nvidia-smi on systems with NVIDIA drivers.
  • The long rack-uuid=... argument is an internal identifier Chromium/Brave passes to its GPU process and is not itself an NVIDIA GPU UUID or an indication of malware.

Hello, thats problem is because your system is using vulkan for rendering videos. So, on linux discrete card is the default vulkan rendering device. If you want to fix that you need to set a environment variable for only use integrated card for vulkan rendering:

Here a example:

VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/intel_icd.x86_64.json brave-bin

In my case my integrated card is a intel, but if you use a amd, you need to check vulkan json for amd inside /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/

You do realize that’s a dumb idea, right? They never said anything about wanting to use, or needing to use an iGPU.

They didn’t even say which CPU they had for you to even know if they have an iGPU or not, so for 1, asking them to downgrade their GPU of choice isn’t smart, they were merely asking “what is this” and “is it intended?”.

You coming in and telling them do essentially force Brave to use an iGPU you don’t even know if they have or not, is a heck of an uneducated assumption that’s bound to mess someone’s computer right up. (Like using AI without actually knowing troubleshooting, good way to break someone else’s stuff.)

Really? well… this work for me and I only share my workaround and explain the RCA. Maybe another user with an optimus system use this workaround in the future.
