You’d get it at https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases, but have to know which was the last version to work with your device. If you try to do the newest ones it won’t work because they are designed only for the newest.
I’m not sure which version of Android yours is or anything.
@Lingy you would have to change your device settings to allow you to install apps from external sources. Then, as I said, you would have to know which version is last supported for your OS. That is the APK you would have to install.
I found it easier to use apk pure and found an early release, the note 8 is my spare phone as I had smashed my note 20 ultra, I’m trying to find parts to mend that..
Glad you got it working. I know I tend to focus just on official sources. So you found an unofficial source. Sometimes they work perfectly but of course those always have risks. So always up to whatever people want to use. Hopefully no issues and you got it resolved for what you need
Sorry to bother you, but I have a question related to this, please. I see that Brave is no longer compatible with my son’s phone/version of Android (and so cannot update). My question (please):
Will my son be able to continue using the installation of Brave he currently has?
I’m asking because some apps - such as the John Lewis app (a retail store in England) - prevent all access to their installed app if it becomes out-of-date.
I understand that it’s unsafe to run a browser without updating it. I’m just trying to work out if my son will lose all access to the app before I can help him get a new phone. He has a LOT of data (thousands of tabs!) in Brave which he doesn’t want to lose (I’m planning to start a separate thread at a later date to ask for help with how to do that).
Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. If anything is unclear about my question, please let me know. Also, if I’m being rude by jumping in (sorry!), I’d be happy to create a new question thread.
@sarahmercedes the browser will always continue working but there are potential issues that could happen. For example, if you are using sync it is possible future updates could stop it from working since it won’t have the proper code/components. The same is true for Shields, as adblocking technology changes the newer filters may eventually be incompatible. But nobody can know when this type of thing might happen.
Overall they have been trying to maintain filter lists and capabilities to even work with the outdated apps, but this is more of a side project with no promises or guarantees. It’s best to update when possible, not only to have the newest and best features, but also the best security and privacy tools.
@Saoiray Thank you so, so much for your lightening fast and clear reply. I’m really glad that it’ll continue working, that gives me time to work out what to do next. My son was very worried, and you have helped us. Thank you!
