Gmail not loading in Brave

Description of the issue:
Gmail will not load in the bowser. The favicon has turned gray and the window just says “site can’t be reached”. Gmail is working on my phone & other browsers, so its got to be browser related.

Already done tried:

  • Browser is up to date
  • I restarted the browser
  • i cleared the cache & cookies for the last 24 hrs
  • tried it in private window and does not work their either

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Brave: 1.80.125 (Official Build) (arm64)](https://brave.com/latest/)

@AWildRiley may be related to an extension you have installed or a VPN connection (if you’re using one). On my end, using Brave 1.80.125 on macOS gmail is loading without any issue.

Can you try clearing all cache/site data for gmail.com? To do this, visit gmail (even if it doesn’t load), click the “tune” icon to the left of the URL, then Site settings --> Delete data.

Refresh the page and see if the page loads.

I tried your suggestion of clearing the data with no success. I also don’t have a VPN or any change in extensions or updates since it worked yesterday.

I have a bit more data - hovering over the ‘tune’ Icon gave me this:

So, it’s reading the connection as not secure, so maybe it just won’t let it load.

Also, while initially it kicked me out of google drive & calendar, it let me log back into those, even though the email still isn’t working.

Not sure what to try next. Thanks for your help!

If you disable Brave’s Shields for the site does that allow it to load?

I just tried it with no success. This is so odd.

@AWildRiley let me ask, do you have it set to allow extensions to operate in private window?

Also, if you create a second browser profile, does it work? Use the hamburger menu (three lines up upper right of your browser) → More ToolsAdd New Profile and name it whatever you want. This will create a secondary profile with most settings at default, no cookies, and no extensions.

You’ll be able to swap back to your original profile with no issues and can delete the new profile, but for now would be good to see if the problem persists or resolves on it. Of course on the secondary profile, don’t change anything. Leave it as is.

UPDATE below per request:

Today Brave browser is not loading any of my bookmarked websites; gmail, bank, retail, nothing. I get this error, “mail.google.com’s DNS address could not be found. Diagnosing the problem. DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE

nothing happens. I’ve tried private window and creating a new generic profile, restarting, clearing cache, cookies, history for all time.

None of this has worked. Thank you for your help.

Brave version 1.81.136

Windows OS build 26100.4946

Yes, same trouble/ message with Google Chrome

I don’t have Safari or Firefox installed, so can’t try those.

@Carolekay25

Please edit your reply above, in order to include:

  • Brave Browser version numbers
  • Operating System version numbers

Also, in order for you to convey some of your Brave Browser DNS settings - showing both the User secure DNS switch position and the Select DNS Provider setting - in a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/security and take a screenshot of the following (or very similar area):

. . . and include that kind of screenshot, here.

Also, do you have the same trouble using any of the following Internet browsers(?):

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari

@Carolekay25

For today I was able to go the Geek squadand get help Immediately. There was a bad wifi driver. Once he installed the new driver it loaded the browser and any web page loaded.

Thanks again!
