The VPN service provided by Brave Software should be free, I understand that it is a way to monetize their work, but the Opera browser and its namesake, Opera GX, have their own VPN service with free and unlimited use, and in my opinion, adding a free VPN can be one more reason to switch to Brave Browser, providing its users with one of the most famous features of one of the most competitive browsers.
Grow up, delivering features like VPN generates costs for Brave and as You mentioned it is a way of monetizing/generating money that are necessary to maintain servers or delivering new features. You can say that it can be one more reason to switch to Brave Browser but they need more people who can pay for their services (like VPN)that people who expects that everything should be free (like You right now). And the argument about Opera is so stupid that I can’t even imagine someone came with idea so stupid like that. If company X offers feature for free then company Y also has to do it? Do You publish stupid posts like that on Proton Mail that Gmail has 15 GB of storage not 1 GB so…
The term you do not know.
Brave is into the crypto world, with the sponsored banners or notifications that are ads, besides, the system is provided by Vanguard, it is not Brave’s in the strict sense of the word.
The stupid thing would be to talk about the subscription to the search engine.
Yes I have Opera installed for this sole reason
I prefer Brave for browsing but when I need to get past geo blocking I turn to Opera
The Brave Private Window with TOR is also very useful but certain sites heavily block TOR so VPN is the only option
I’ve read that the Opera VPN is more of a proxy than a true VPN and so isn’t the most secure, but since I only use it for bypassing blocks and don’t input private info it doesn’t bother me
It would be great if Brave could implement a similar built in proxy if not a full blown VPN
You can just download a desktop VPN.
I recommend Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/
It’s 100% free and has so many countries.
I’m surprised not many people know about this and pay for VPNs.
Opera doesn’t have a free VPN service. What they have is a proxy that tracks and sells your personal data.
Brave’s ad platform insinsts on privacy-preserving ads.
This kind of ads can’t make the needed money to give you a free proxy. Opera can do it because they sell your personal profile and your browsing activity.
Opera has a real VPN but that costs money, it’s not free. It has 3 plans, the montly subscription costs 8 dollars, or 4 dollars a month for a yearly subscription. Opera doesn’t give a real VPN for free.
Nobody can do that for you without paying, maybe they can give you a proxy like what Opera does and everybody will know your browsing activity. What’s the point of a VPN anyway if everybody knows your browsing activity with it?
According to their policy they gather your personal data, your profile and sell your data.
Their exact words: The second type of information is individually identifiable information, namely information that identifies an individual or entity or may with reasonable effort identify an individual (“Personal Data ”).
What is the point of using a VPN and everybody to know your browsing activity?
Well, if you’re using Brave, the ones buying ur data have nothing to do with it anyway, because you will never see ads.
So the only way the will use ur data is for like data analysis which I’m sure isn’t a problem.
While ur using it just cover your camera and make sure not to let it run in the background if you’re worried about data.

A VPN, protects its users by encrypting their data and masking their IP addresses.
This hides their browsing activity, identity, and location, allowing for greater privacy and autonomy.
It has nothing to do about how your personal data are used, for serving you personalized ads for example.
It is about others not having access to your personal information in the first place. It could be not only an ad company, it could be a goverment, authorities, police etc.
A VPN that doesn’t give you data encryption and masking of your identity is not a VPN, it’s an illusion.
Why do you need a VPN anyway? What are you trying to achieve by using it?
I really only use VPN to stream sports.
I see what you mean though, I guess I should be more careful of what I download and allow access to private stuff.
